About this deal

The BOTE HD Aero is one of the largest boards in this roundup. It measures 11 feet 6 inches in length and it’s 34 inches wide. This makes it a very stable board that’s suitable for a range of activities, including fishing. The Atoll 11 is my top choice for this year because it has almost everything any paddler would want in a SUP. Its construction is remarkable and it can take whatever you throw at it. I love the premium accessories too. Despite this downside, the Bote Flood is still a nice board with good performance and a unique design that makes it stand out, although the skulls that feature in the design might not be to everyone’s taste – even if they are somewhat trendy.

However, you might also be wondering about how they compare to solid paddle boards, and whether they’re as good.We love the paddle holder on the Waterwalker too. Some SUP activities like yoga and angling can be challenging when you have nowhere to put your paddle. Having the paddle holder keeps your paddle out of the way, leaving your hands free. Now the only other thing that comes into the performance is the paddle. So what paddle you get with these boards will determine a bit of your performance. However, I don’t make a huge remark about the paddles as you can easily just upgrade a paddle. Most companies will offer you a discount on an upgrade if you are already buying a board (so don’t be scared to ask!!). The best paddle here is the NIXY I believe. It’s got a slim blade that is also quite light thanks to less materials. Though because it’s been shaped with the ridges it is still quite strong and doesn’t flex. The Sea Gods and Cruiser Ultra paddles – both carbon fiber, as are the ThursoSurf paddles. The BlueFin paddle comes in last here as it’s a bit heavier/clunkier than the others. Side fins aren’t removable: This makes it harder to roll up the board and there’s more risk of you damaging the fins. That said, there’s less risk of you losing them! The Gili Komodo is designed to be Gili’s most versatile option–and I wasn’t disappointed. It’s a nice, stable all-around SUP that you can use anywhere, for pretty much any inflatable paddle boarding activity.

I hope that helps, and please let me know what questions you have/what you decide to go with! Reply Thurso: Great SOLID board. A little heavier than the others on our best SUP list, but the weight feels really good in the water and helps the board perform well in chop and windy condition. The carbon fiber rails are nice, and the board is very well made all the way around. I personally prefer the 11′ over the 10’6, but I’m almost 6′ tall. If you are under 5’9, then I’d recommend the 126. I have only used solid SUP which was stable so have never used an inflatable. Was looking to buy 2 solid SUP but don’t want to deal with storage and transport so now looking at inflatables. As far as materials go, NIXY has created a super light board due to their dual layer FUSIONtec technology. At just 20 lbs, the Newport is always one of the lightest boards on our top SUP list, but with the addition of carbon fiber rails you don’t sacrifice the strength or durability of the board.Open-lake paddling: I’ll be paddling on an unsheltered portion of a Canadian Great Lake (i.e. smooth some days, choppy other days, but I won’t go out in metre-high waves or wander far from shore, I promise. The ability to change fins in and out based on the conditions would be helpful. Stability: it’s a thought: I am more balanced than the average human (grew up sailing, skateboarding, riding horses) but something –super- tippy would be irresponsible in the chop because of aforementioned ‘best to not regularly bang head on board’ situation. Color options: Most entry-level paddle boards only come in one color. The Nautical is available in four colors so you can choose what suits you best. Beautiful design and color options: The Bote Breeze looks good and you have three patterns to choose from – each of them is distinctive and unique.
