Talisker 8 yo (43%, OB, Distillers Agency, Grande Marche Francesi, cork, ‘pure malt’, late 1960s) - 241209 The Distiller’s Edition from Talisker features additional maturation in ex-oloroso sherry casks. Though each annual limited release does not feature a overt age statement, the distillation and bottling years are clearly presented on the label. The Distiller’s Edition is bottled at the same 45.8% ABV (91.6 proof) as Talisker 10 Year. It is in the mouth that TALISKER proves to be a whisky from the Hebrides made from peated barley. Indeed, it brings first of all in power (in spite of its "45,8 %") a light peat which Talisker 1984/2021 (51.9%, OB, Prima & Ultima Third Release, hogsheads and sherry butt, 2022) - 210622The Service has been prepared by us solely for information purposes to Members and the Service is based on information we consider reliable and we obtain the contents of the Service from a number of different third party sources (including Contributions), but we do not endorse, support, represent, warrant or guarantee the completeness, truthfulness, accuracy, or reliability of the Services and any information therein. Palate: It starts off with notes of caramel and peat, then progresses into a very earthy and slightly medicinal midpalate. Subtle mesquite bbq flavor on the finish is accompanied by an astringency that reminds me of lemon essential oil dropped right on the tongue. For those who did not grow up with a parent into essential oils I will try my best to explain this sensation. It is the feeling of an oil rolling across the tongue while both drying it out and fully taking over the flavor profile. Like that, but much more subtle. Peat is more present in flavors of earthiness than it is in smoke. You are responsible for all activities through your account. We’re proud to introduce the latest Distillers Edition line-up, a collection created to celebrate some of Diageo’s finest Single Malt Scotch Whiskies and their distilleries,” says Hannah Todd, Director of Single Malt Whiskies Portfolio at Diageo. “The collection has a long history dedicated to its aging process and craftsmanship, making it the perfect gift to commemorate special moments with. Whether celebrating a holiday, gifting a loved one, or toasting to a special occasion, the Distillers Edition collection has a liquid for every type of person in your life.” Talisker 8 yo 2009/2018 (59.4%, OB, Special Release, first fill American oak hogsheads, 4,680 bottles) - 081018 - by Angus - 050119 The idea with the Distillers Edition Collection, which got started in 1997, is that it is, per Diageo, “an annual release of Classic Single Malts, each double-matured in a different type of cask wood chosen carefully by Master Blenders to complement the characteristics of the whisky. Using each distillery’s core offering as the base and underscoring the unparalleled craftsmanship and unmatched expertise required by world-class distillers and blenders, Distillers Edition bottlings complement each distillery’s traditional character while providing whisky adorers a chance to explore the dynamic flavor possibilities of these beloved distilleries.”It is only in the apple of the hand that once the fruit has evaporated one feels a smell of cold ash. I agree. The info on the DEs, if anything, is better than a simple age statement (distilled in/bottled in dates giving you both the age and the era/vintage of the product), but most of those who aren’t fussy about age statements aren’t usually holding out for better age info as opposed to simply embracing no age info (and/or confusing it with multivintaging) – producers included. Talisker 1998/2017 (56.6%, OB for Keepers Of The Quaich, cask #6829, refill sherry butt, 618 bottles) - by Angus - 040420 Talisker makes the best single malt Scotch whisky on the Isle of Skye, and I will take issue with anyone who says otherwise. Seeing as they are the only operational distillery on Skye, one could just as easily make the argument that they produce the worst single malt on the island. I suppose I am choosing to see my Glencairn glass as half full, at least in this case. Whiskybase B.V. And, uncharacteristically, I’ve not been totally against releases where they mess with that pure Talisker goodness with wine casks and whatnot. The Distillers Editions from Diageo typically take the big-budget action heroes of the Diageo lineup and then proceed to drown them in sweet wine. Sometimes this works. Sometimes not so much. Here, they take the standard Talisker (aged in ex-bourbon barrels) and finish it in amoroso sherry casks for somewhere around a year. My bottle was distilled in 2002 and bottled in 2013, which means (even without a big number on the front label) that it’s at least 10 years old. This year’s collection crosses four main distilling regions: Speyside, Islay, Highlands, and Lowlands. Only Campbeltown is missing. The distilleries include: Lagavulin (Islay), Talisker (Islay: Isle of Skye), Cragganmore (Speyside), Oban (Western Highland), Dalwhinnie (Highland), and Glenkinchie (Lowland).

Talisker 11 yo 'The Lustrous Creature of the Depths' (55.1%, OB, Special Releases 2022, Elusive Expressions) - 051022 Talisker 10 was one of those releases which just never left me after the first taste; I found myself craving its the distinctive flavor profile. In mixed company, the dram can be overpowered by more heavily peated single malts such as Laphroaig or Lagavulin. It would be a mistake to view the release as a lesser version of an Islay malt, however. Talisker has a unique identity which sets it apart as much as being the only distillery on Skye does. The price for a bottle is very reasonable, and paired with its quality, makes this release a must-have for my own collection. Score: 90/100 [ SHOP FOR A BOTTLE OF TALISKER 10] Tasting Notes: Talisker Distiller’s EditionPalate: Talisker’s signature briny peat hits the tongue first, evoking seaspray and driftwood campfires, and the taste of dried saltwater on your lips. This is immediately followed by a wave of jammy sherry, nougat, and grilled fruit (are grilled plums a thing?). Then comes the smell of vanilla as slightly peppery. The third passage highlights softer and more citrusy aromas. One does not really feel the usual TALISKER aromas (smoke, light peat and North is perhaps amongst Talisker’s most appropriately named outings. Not only is the release bottled ay 57% alcohol by volume, but the Talisker distillery itself is located on the globe at 57° 17′ .9 N latitude. Talisker describes the bottling as a “Special Strength,” not to be confused with cask strength offerings. One of my favorite characteristics of Talisker is how punchy it is, and 57° North comes out swinging. With this non-age-statement release, it is more than simply the higher alcohol content that is intriguing. I found the flavor profile to be a further enhanced and amplified take on the Talisker 10 model. While there are some subtleties that get steamrolled in the process, this is a single malt that is just simply a load of fun. Score: 91/100 [ SHOP FOR A BOTTLE OF TALISKER 57° NORTH]
