About this deal

Now we attach the servo mounts and also the rubber cover and plate to the switch on the kits TEU-104BK electronic speed controller. As ours it a UK kit, it comes with an ESC although the inclusion of this may vary from country to country. Now, Tamiya is proud to release the updated Holiday Buggy (2010), which comes mounted on the proven DT-02 chassis.

Gear pitch will be one of two types imperial (diametral pitch, aka diametrical pitch, dp or simply pitch) - mostly found on US and UK made cars - e.g. Associated & Mardave; or metric - module or mod - mostly found on Japanese made cars - e.e Tamiya. To celebrate the30th anniversaryof this iconic models first appearance, Tamiya have re-released the Holiday Buggy on the modern DT-02 chassis. It features a 4-wheel double wishbone suspension, and its simple, durable construction makes for easy assembly. By installing separately available Type 540 motor and corresponding pinion gear, more powerful driving can be enjoyed. Subaru Brat (re-re) - 16T, 18T, 19T depending on spur gear, 0.8 mod metric (32 dp also fit) - thanks Jonny Retro

TRAINS

I don't think this is something to really look for in a Holiday Buggy. If you consider buying a used one, I'd pay attention to the chassis: It may have got the front spring mounts broken. I think this goes for the 'roll bar' and front bodymount as well. Also look for items as the speed controller, origional tires and wheels, body, driver and jerricans on the side. The bumper is a very desireable item on this car: because it shares this part with the 'Racing Buggies' they tend to cost as much as the rest of the car. Keep in mind these are beginners car and these tend to be driven around many things, and especially INTO things. And you mostly hit things with the front first: bye-bye bumper! Most of them will be in bad shape for this reason. There are plenty of small parts that need painting on the Holiday Buggy. The driver figure needs painting but the head and hat come pre-finished. The paint finish here is good but the drivers face has a brown wash over it making him look like he’s been snuffling for truffles… The uprights built in Step 3 are mated to the front end built in Step 2 along with the attachment of the front bumper. Step 28 shows you how to install the drive battery, Simples. Step 29 shows you how to tidy your wiring. We had already done this though when we installed the radio earlier…

Now the motor and spur gear are put into the gearbox. Make sure to tape the small plastic moulding to the motor where instructed as this reduces stress on the motor adaptor plate during running. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of this iconic models first appearance, Tamiya have re-released the Holiday Buggy on the modern DT-02 chassis.

AERO ACCESSORIES

Please note: These ‘ready to run bundles’ includes everything you need to operate this model once the kit is built. This is a kit which will require building. This model comes with a blue shell. We don’t recommend running your Holiday Buggy through puddles, it does make for cool pictures though! Do as we say, not do as we do… Durable front double wishbone suspension offers smooth movement. Grooved front tires enable superb handling. The Frog (re-re) - 16T, 18T, 19T depending on spur gear, 0.8 mod metric (32 dp also fit) - thanks Jonny Retro

Step 18 shows you what radio equipment you need for the Holiday Buggy. We used an Acoms Techniplus set, perfect for the car. Step 19 sees the steering servo saver built. The correct part for the Acoms servo is clearly marked in the instructions. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of this iconic models first appearance, Tamiya have re-released the Holiday Buggy on the modern DT-02 chassis. I noticed something very interresting regarding the Holiday Buggy (H and Sand Rover (SR): Both chassis say: "RC 1/10 Holiday Buggy". Difference between these kits where obviously the body and the rollbar / body mounts, and the SR had a 540 motor mount in the kit (the HB without). But some (earlier) HB kits (like mine)came with a different chassis! These chassis seem to be the same, but earlier ones can't accept the 540 motor mount! They also have different front spring mounts, but there is no problem there. I was so happy to find a motor mount, and then it didn't fit! You don't want to know how disappointing this was... Good thing I got a 380 one now free of charge. (thanx blondiniboy!) My Mardave Meteor on the other hand, has a spur gear with 28 teeth, and a diameter of 0.83 inches - which comes out at 33.9 - again taking into account the fact I measured in mm & converted, + rounding = 32dp. We are nearly finished on the chassis now. Here the wheels and tyres are attached. They are assembled in the box, just bolt them on as instructed! Don’t forget to grease the front avles as shown though…
