About this deal

Winds which are referred to as “to menos” which translates to “the fury” in English-Winds that cut the Islands off from one another when they come out of nowhere, and begin to blow furiously. It’s funny, I feel that you and I should be sitting together on a couple of barstools, right now, as I tell you this tale—like two old friends, drinking at the bar. I ask you not to interrupt too much, at least not at first. There will be plenty of opportunity for debate afterward. For now, I request you politely hear me out—as you might indulge a friend’s rather lengthy anecdote. The tale he shares is actually more of a tragic love story, although someone is murdered-and Elliott will share the details of both… I arrived at that moment, along with the others—in time to hear the beginnings of Leo’s howl, before the wind grabbed the sound from his lips and ran off with it, disappearing into the dark.

One spring morning, reclusive ex-movie star Lana Farrar invites a small group of her closest friends for a weekend away, on her small private island, just off the coast of Mykonos. Audacious, twisty, compelling, and full of the joyous verve that one only finds in the very best storytelling, this is the best novel yet from Alex Michaelides' Sophie Hannah

As Theo attempts to treat Alicia, he also dives deep into her past and her art. Her diary reveals her hidden thoughts about the murder and the events leading to it. Meanwhile, dark truths about Theo’s life are also revealed.

Elliot Chase and his rich ass friends decide to spend Easter weekend on a secluded Greek island. And even though Jesus has risen, unfortunately one of their group has fallen. DUN DUN DUN!!!! This was def my most anticipated read for 2024; I considered it the tiebreaker between TPS (5 star banger IMO) and The Maidens (RIP to the trees that lost their lives for that book). Thankfully it was much better than his last. I plan on making a YouTube video covering his three books, so I'll keep this short-ish (not short at all):

Mesmerising – a beguiling labyrinth of twists and surprises, even better than THE SILENT PATIENT. THE FURY is THE MAGUS meets THE SECRET HISTORY on a Greek island paradise where nothing is as it seems, and Alex Michaelides is a master magician, skilfully misdirecting the reader at every turn" She moved to London with her young son, Leo. She bought them a massive house in Mayfair, six stories high. She didn’t intend to stay for long—certainly not forever; it was a temporary experiment in a new style of living while Lana worked out what to do with the rest of her life.

Lana Farrar is a reclusive ex-movie star and one of the most famous women in the world. Every year, she invites her closest friends to escape the English weather and spend Easter on her idyllic private Greek island. He’s achieved the almost impossible and surpassed The Silent Patient in this compelling literary thriller, which grips from intriguing start to horrifying finish. It takes a rare talent to take inspiration from Tennyson, Homer and Euripides and weave them into such a contemporary and compelling story, and he has more than achieved this. A brilliant achievement.’ Harriet Tyce His story begins with the beautiful Actress who owns the Island, Lana Farrar, a reclusive ex-movie star.Alex studied psychotherapy for three years, and worked for two years at a secure unit for young adults – all of which provided material and inspiration for the book. He is also a screenwriter. I’m talking about wind. The wind that whirls around the Greek islands. Wild, unpredictable Greek wind. Wind that drives you mad.

In the end I didn't care who had done it. I didn't care which of these flat characters would live or die.

See a Problem?

It'll be hot, sunny, perfect. A chance to relax and reconnect - and maybe for a few hidden truths to come out. Narrated by Elliott Chase, one of the main characters, the story recounts what happened on Aura, a small Greek island owned by retired and highly acclaimed motion picture star Lana Farrar. She's invited a couple of friends plus her husband Jason and son Leo there for a weekend getaway - as much to get some much-needed sunshine for herself as anything else. But the get-together stretches the concept of "friends" to the limit and beyond; before the weekend is out, tragedy will strike one of them. Was it triggered by the winds - the menos, or "fury," for which the island is known - or was it a deliberate act by one (or more) of the humans? And if so, who's the culprit, and what on earth was the motive? Infused with Victorian-era British poetry and Greek mythology, Maidens turns the highbrow into the highly readable ” Entertainment Weekly I read it in two nights and savoured every luscious word, every grim encounter, every startling twist' David Baldacci
