About this deal

Cambridge Audio delivers yet another stunning effort for hi-fi enthusiasts of all types and budgets with the AXR85. Prepare the speaker cords for connection by stripping off approximately 10mm (3/8”) or less of the outer insulation. More than 10mm could cause a short circuit. Twist the wires tightly together so there are no loose ends. Unscrew the speaker terminal, insert the speaker cable, tighten the terminal and secure the cable. The Cambridge Audio AX Series is being joined by a powerful all-rounder, as promised by the English hi-fi manufacturer Cambridge Audio. With an excellent price/performance ratio, the new Cambridge Audio AXR100D is set to prove a perfect start to the hi-fi world of “Great British Sound”.

It is possible to change the tuner region settings for this unit. This can be necessary if the unit has been moved to a different country. Prices valid in stores (all including VAT) until close of business on 28th November 2023. (Some of these web prices are cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online.)The tuner will stop at the first strong signal it finds. To move to another station simply press the reverse or forward ‘Skip/Scan’ button again.

Two settings are possible which set the correct de-emphasis and tuning steps for either North America or Europe/Rest of the world. Note: Changing the tuner settings will clear all stored presets. When moving the unit to another region the Voltage Select switch must be set to the correct mains supply voltage by an authorized dealer. As with the previous Cambridge Audio AX Series solutions, the developers of the new Cambridge Audio AXR100D have of course opted for the modern design language with a modern touch that has been cultivated by the English hi-fi manufacturer for some time, with only the Lunar Grey version being offered here. Under the display, there’s a row of four buttons, each corresponding to the relevant analogue input on the rear. A volume dial and menu button are on the right, while a 6.35mm headphone output and 3.5mm auxiliary input sandwich the amp’s infrared receiver on the left. For those who want to enjoy music without being disturbed during the advanced hour, the new Cambridge Audio AXR100D has a headphone connection directly on the front. Naturally for a receiver, the 85-watt AXR85 has FM/AM tuners, which is bolstered by a built-in Bluetooth receiver, three analogue RCA inputs, a phono stage and a 3.5mm aux input. Recording, subwoofer and 6.3mm headphone outputs are correct and present too. More uniquely at this price, the AXR85 boasts two zones for driving two pairs of speakers simultaneously. After making any connections to your unit, activate the AXR by pressing the Power On button on the front of the unit. Forget the AXR from your devices’ list of discoverable Bluetooth items and start the pairing process again.

The front panel offers up a real headphone amp and another mini plug analog input. Bass, treble, and balance controls can be accessed via the menu or remote. This is the perfect amp to pair with a good set of bookshelf speakers to create an excellent starter analog audio system. With plenty of inputs for other sources, you get the excellent Cambridge Audio British sound. Cambridge Audio AXR stereo receiver AXR85 Press and hold both the 4/9 and Menu buttons at the same time. The display will show the software revision and followed by either a letter ‘CU’ which represents North America or a letter ‘EU’ which represents Europe/Rest of the world. Note: To add another Bluetooth device, Press and hold the Bluetooth/Phono button to disconnect the current connection and repeat step 2. If your turntable does have a built-in Phono stage or you are using an external version, you should connect to any of the other analogue inputs, as the 'Phono' input may produce an unwanted distortion. Cambridge Audio is now expanding the Cambridge Audio AX Series with a solution that ranks at the top end and is intended to be the new flagship product, the new Cambridge Audio AXR100D FM/DAB Stereo Receiver. It’s easy to guess that this is a stereo receiver that builds on the existing Cambridge Audio AXR100 stereo receiver, but now comes with an integrated DAB+ tuner.

Having said that, the AXA35 arguably sounds clearer and has a more neutral tonal balance, doing more than enough to justify a five-star rating at this price point. It looks and sounds the part, and if this is just a hint of what the rest of the Cambridge Audio’s AX range has to offer, we’re in for a sonic treat. With the increased popularity of vinyl, more and more people are looking for a stereo receiver that they can directly connect to a turntable. The good news is that a lot of stereo receivers have a built-in phono stage — which is labeled as the "phono input" — so you can connect your turntable directly to the receiver via an RCA cable. If your turntable already has a built-in phono-stage or you want to use an external phono preamp, you can connect it to your receiver via the AUX or CD input and by using a another RCA cable To assign a radio station to a preset, or reallocate an existing preset to a new preset location, please follow the steps below, whilst listening to the frequency or station you wish to store:
