Tonally it’s fine, but for some reason, they manage to sound pretty anemic. To get any kind of impact from them, I occasionally find myself cranking the volume higher than I would like. Midrange

Neumann is known for being an objective audio lover’s darling in the audio monitoring scene. All of their speakers exhibit state-of-the-art measured performance, yet they haven’t quite reached the mythical status of Augspurger, ATC, or PMC, mainstays of superstar studios around the globe. Note: The measurements you are about to see are made using a standardized Gras 45C. Headphone measurements by definition are approximate and variable so don't be surprised if other measurements even if performed with the same fixtures as mine, differ in end results. Protocols vary such as headband pressure and averaging (which I don't do). As you will see, I confirm the approximate accuracy of the measurements using Equalization and listening tests. Ultimately headphone measurements are less exact than speakers mostly in bass and above a few kilohertz so keep that in mind as you read these tests. If you think you have an exact idea of a headphone performance, you are likely wrong! Let me now take care of this part of the opinion piece as this will be the answers to what most of us want to know. The NDH 30 are primarily designed to be the studio engineer’s tool for peering into mixes when monitor speakers are unavailable. What does it mean exactly?

The removable headphone cable is light but has this spring action to it that was annoying. I literally had to put something on top of it on my desk to keep it from interfering with my mouse. However, if there's one other part that rivals the microphone in significance, it's the monitoring system. No self‑respecting studio can afford to skimp in this area either, and in 2005, Neumann's parent company Sennheiser acquired German loudspeaker manufacturers Klein+Hummel. Four years later, the studio monitor arm of K+H was folded into the Neumann stable, and since then, there have been numerous loudspeaker releases under the Neumann brand. These have built on K+H's already strong reputation to develop a very highly regarded product portfolio. Having headphones tonally sound like calibrated speakers in a decent room has been the gold standard for developing target curves. For somewhat useful information on the NDH 20, I suggest looking at the dedicated thread below, started by @FullBright1, who can also give you a better rundown on both headphones.

As with many things, your opinion of the NDH 30 will depend on your expectations. No, they aren’t the second coming of HD650. We can all settle down and resume dreaming. They are, however, a pair of decently proficient modern headphones – with one serious flaw. Delivery prices are subject to change and delivery is not guaranteed due to circumstances beyond our reasonable control. Sennheiser themselves, of course, are also well known both for microphones and headphones, but until this year, the Neumann brand has never encompassed headphones. That has changed with the launch of the NDH 20.While most of the frequency spectrum on the NDH 30 is faithfully reproduced, they have a curious upper-mid scoop starting at 1.5kHz right up to 3.5kHz. Audibly, it makes the overall tonality calmer and inoffensive but also robs voices, strings, and synths of their bite. Thus the listening experience is very easy on the ears but also quite uninvolving. Technicalities There is less roll-off than on the HD6XX series headphones, and deep notes carry almost no distortion or noise. Just like with the NDH 20, Neumann engineers are doing wonders with the Sennheiser 40mm (or 38mm?) driver. I am left handed so the right side headphone lead is preferable for me. Unlike with the silver (original NDH 20) option, only one cable is supplied which is straight cable. Whilst that is still my preference to use, I would however have liked the coiled option to be included (especially at this price point). The ear cups even though they are circular are comfortable for me, but may not be the case for those with larger ears. The headphones clamp tightly on my head and surprisingly also are very comfortable when wearing glasses…..Now to how do they sound?!! Transparent and high frequencies were a little harsh upon first listen, but I put this down to previous headphones HD650 being much more subtle in the higher register. Bass is there but again less then I am used to, but I like this for mixing as they are close to that of the Neumann KH80’s, so it’s easy to work with them both, without nothing drastic changing on either option. I did also try these with Sonarworks ID with which work great in combination with HD650, but really didn’t like using it with the NDH20, as it removed any low end and made higher frequencies even more harsher and abrasive. The Neumann acoustic engineers took the historically awesome Sennheiser HD 650 as their sonic reference point, re-balancing the sound to squeeze out the added bass warmth from the 650s and achieve a balanced tuning that’s as faithful as possible to the original recording. This is where the “pro” element of these headphones comes through."""

In my opinion, this headphone is exactly what its designed to be.........a studio monitor on your head, first and foremost, and an Audiophile tool for those who prefer flat and clear, vs sweet, or rich, or overly extended. Warum nun sind Sie eine tolle Ergänzung zum KH120 (oder die KH120 eine tolle Ergänzung zu diesen Kopfhörern) ? The NDH 20 uses newly designed drivers (38 mm/1.5”) with high-gauss neodymium magnets to ensure high sensitivity and minimized distortion, thus allowing the user to listen to the pure audio signal without unwanted coloration. The mechanical construction, too, meets the highest standards. The adjustable headband is made of flexible steel while the ear cup covers are machined from lightweight aluminum. For easy transportation the headphone is foldable and can be placed into the supplied soft cloth bag. Two detachable cables (one straight, one coiled) and a 6.3 mm (1/4”) adapter are also included. ApplicationsIt’s not an understatement to call Neumann a legendary pro audio company. Their microphones have been used by all kinds of celebrities – starting from a certain controversial Austria-born politician in the 1930s all the way up to now with Billie Eilish and others looking to make their mark upon the world with sound. The NDH 30 was developed with the aim of making the reference sound of a Neumann studio monitor setup, perfectly calibrated via MA-1, available everywhere in the form of an easily transportable headphone. At the same time, the NDH 30 forms its own sound reference in terms of headphone reproduction, which has become a key to success with the consumer. Its superior sound characteristics make the NDH 30 the first choice for mixing and mastering. Thanks to its high long-term comfort, it is just as excellently suited to high-precision editing.
