About this deal

As mentioned, the TG-7 has the same imaging features as the TG-6, which is nearly identical to the TG-5. The three models all use a Type 1/2.3 format 12MP BSI CMOS sensor and the TruePic VIII image processor. Those specs are underwhelming in light of smartphones and action cams with bigger chips and more powerful processors that boost their computational performance. 5.4mm (30mm equivalent), f/2.3, 1/125-second, ISO 250 This compact camera houses a 28mm wide lens and an optical zoom function with up to 5x the range. Add to this a digital zoom that expands the total to 10x and you have a decent amount of reach. Fantastic for holiday adventures where you want to capture the kids engaged in activities. The OM System OM-10 is the next camera expected to be announced. Following the transmogrification of the Olympus OM-D EM-1 and E-M5 to the OM System OM-1 and OM-5, now it's the turn of the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV to be reborn.

This is a 35mm disposable camera encased in plastic. It does an excellent job of keeping the film and the camera internals dry. The lens is scratch and sunscreen resistant, so you never have to worry about using it on the beach, in the water, or on a bumpy boat ride. If you’d rather keep your main camera out of the water (or you don’t have one), then your choices are going to be between tough compacts and action cameras, both of which we’ve included in the first part of this guide. Tough compacts look more like the camera form factor you’re used to, with a thin body, centrally placed lens and shutter button on top. Action cameras, meanwhile, are smaller and boxier – the GoPro HERO is the most famous, and they all pretty much look like that. However, as mentioned before, the image quality or versatility may not match that of more conventional cameras like DSLRs or mirrorless systems, mainly due to their fixed lenses and sometimes smaller sensors. There's just something about film that brings photos to life. If you're looking for a retro-cool waterproof camera for yourself or an inexpensive model for the kids that won't wear out your wallet, you need the Kodak MAX Water & Sport disposable camera. The inner camera has an impressive depth range of 60 Ft (18m) and weighs in at just 8.3oz (234gm). However, it has greater depth capabilities as it comes with a separate waterproof shell. With this housing, the depth range increases to 200 Ft (60m). It includes four underwater shooting modes, namely Dive, Snorkel, External Light and Flash. The camera also features three additional colour correction settings based on the depth of water you are diving in.

While the TG-6's rugged specs are very impressive, when it comes to going underwater, several of its peers can go quite a bit deeper, with the Nikon Coolpix W300 (arguably the TG-6's closest competitor) able to function down to 30 meters (100 feet). If you're a snorkeler, that's no big deal, but for scuba it's a very desirable trait.

When it comes to features the Olympus TG-6 comes with a host of shooting options from 16 different scene modes to an aperture priority setting. The ISO ranges from ISO 100 to 12800, and the bright F2 lens enables faster shutter speeds for capturing moving subjects. The camera is also capable of recording 4K movies. It’s also worth mentioning it made it onto our list of the top 12 best waterproof and underwater cameras! The Hero8 has an astounding amount of modes for both still photography and video. It utilises a 12mp sensor and can capture full HD 1080p at a staggering 240 frames per second or 4K video at a respectable 60 frames per second. This is something of a hybrid between a housing and an underwater camera – effectively, it’s a housing with the camera already built in. The SeaLife Micro 3.0 Pro Duo 5000 set comes with a camera body, two Sea Dragon 2500F lights and an ergonomically balanced Flex-Connect dual tray. This makes the camera easy to hold underwater and get into position. The Sea Dragon 2500F lights create a total of 5000 lumens combined which is a decent amount of additional light when you’re down deep. Olympus offers a huge number of accessories, including an underwater housing that lets the camera go 15 meters (50 feet) deeper, wide-angle and fisheye conversion lenses, the ability to wirelessly fire Olympus's flashes (which need to be in housings too, of course) and much more.

Tip: Try to shoot in 'P' mode if you can, as the 'i-Enhance' color profile in Auto mode is over-the-top, to say the least. With no viewfinder, the W300 features a standard but bright 3″ 921K TFT screen on the rear. Having access to a bright screen is critical when diving to deeper locations. The Olympus Tough TG-6 is an ideal camera for divers or adventure seekers that enjoy getting out and about in nature. The SeaLife Micro 3.0 is built for underwater photography, while the Paralenz Vaquita 4K is constructed especially for scuba diving. The Vaquita has a distinct cylindrical form factor, controls designed for easy use underwater, and numerous features built for serious divers. The Coolpix W300 does feature video recording with 4K @ 30p which is good to see given that this camera is on the higher side of the price range. From reinforced compact models to all-out action cameras, we’ve tested the best waterproof cameras to help you find your ideal camera to make a splash with. The buying guide below features a range of recommendations to suit every skill level and budget, so whatever you’re shooting, you’re sure to take great images underwater or poolside. The DC2000 inner camera and outer case both have controls that are easy to access and use and are fit for either land or sea photography. Dials and buttons are well positioned and provide a somewhat familiar layout.
