So, when we received a secret tip-off about the GPD XD 2, it grabbed our attention and hooked us in like nerdy-trout. The GPD XD Plus is powered by a Mediatek MT8176 processor running at 2.1Ghz, the graphics chip is a PowerVR GX6250 running at 600Mhz. There is 4GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 32GB of eMMC storage. The storage can be expanded with a MicroSD Card. The XD Plus has supports 2/5Ghz 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac Wi Fi and Bluetooth 4.1.
The LCD is also very nice. Although only 720p, the colours are very vivid and viewing angles are exceptional in every direction. It’s capacitive with a glass front, and it’s every bit as responsive as you’d expect from a modern day phone. There is no blueish hue to the screen either, which is something I’ve noticed in cheaper panels. Update: GPD have confirmed that the launcher is the “GPD Metro UI” launcher. Likely to be extremely similar if not identical to the launcher seen in the XD Plus/
Follow and accept any prompts to install the drivers. Please ignore any Install Failed error messages like the one below. Once the installation is complete, restart your PC. At first glance you’d be forgiven for assuming that the GPD XD is a Nintendo product, such is its similarity to the million-selling 3DS range of handhelds. It’s clear that the designers have simply ripped off the design of that clamshell system, even using largely the same arrangement of physical inputs – including the two additional shoulder buttons introduced with the New Nintendo 3DS. battery life is awesome and now i look forward to places where i have long wait times as i can bust this bad boy out and just while away the time.The 1/2/3/4 layout, as well as the other buttons on the device, can be used with specialized “key mapping software”. This is identical to the software seen in the MOQI family of devices, and allows you to map button inputs to specific locations on the screen.
