About this deal

Therefore, the T3 was discontinued a couple of years ago – and the T3-R has been recently discontinued as well. We’re told, however, that once the T4 series is released – support for the T3 series will continue, with some new features potentially coming from the T4-R to the T3-R as well. Manhattan’s Freeview History One final question. The Humax let me search for all Movies for the whole of the 8 days available in the EPG. Can that be done with the Manhattan? The Manhattan T3-R is a powerhouse. It’s obviously got processing power to spare because it zips around the Freeview Play user interface – itself a thing of beautiful simplicity – with bristling ease. It’s a joy to use, which isn’t something we thought we’d be saying about a Freeview set-top box. The T3-R would show ‘No Signal’ for channels after performing a Smart Retune if the delivery system of their multiplex had changed. The series recording to disappear from the Schedule (but episodes in the next 8 days to continue showing the series recording icon in the Guide)

The 2160p resolution would not be detected and could not be selected when connected to 4K TVs with HDMI inputs that only support HDMI v1.4 and not v2.0. 2160p at 25Hz is now supported for HDMI inputs that only support HDMI 1.4.

When Are The T4 And T4-R Boxes Coming?

In recent years, the BBC ran some trials with 4K contenton iPlayer – namely World Cup games, Wimbledon matches, as well as Blue Planet II, Dynasties and even Dracula.

The T3•R will wait for the Hard Drive to be unmounted before restarting, going to sleep or standby. In Wi-Fi networks with multiple access points, the T3-R would not always connect to the access point with the strongest signal Butwiththat being said, theFreeviewPlayset-top box does offer a wide selection ofUK catch-up apps.In fact, withBBCiPlayer, ITV Hub, All4, My5, UKTV Play, BBC News & Sports, CBS Catch-up, YouTube Kids and Horror Bites, it offers comprehensive coverage of UK-focused content. Please note that some older devices may not support HDMI Control, and the feature needs to be enabled on your TV, AVR or soundbar to work. HDMI-CEC is the generic name but manufacturers all call it something different: Anynet+ (Samsung), Viera Link (Panasonic), LG (Simplink), BRAVIA Link and BRAVIA Sync (Sony), Aquos Link (Sharp). We just call it HDMI Control!

As quiet as it is speedy, the box makes 1080p content look sharp, but comes into its own when you have a 4K HDR TV, as both picture technologies are supported. It's limited to the YouTube app to deliver HDR content at the moment, but it is future proofed at least for when the terrestrial TV providers start offering the content.

Features and Apps

The T4 and T4-R will also support Channel List Management, a newer Freeview function that enables HD-swapping of channels. With Freeview Play, you get the normal EPG, which you can use to switch between “live” shows – but you can also use that same guide to jump directly into streaming apps like BBC iPlayer, to watch past programmes on-demand. The T3-R is 4K and HDR – that’s to say, HDR10 and HLG – ready, although the catch is that there’s no 4K carried over the air on the Freeview platform. It will play 4K from YouTube and BBC iPlayer test streams, however. Audio compatibility covers Dolby Digital Plus and stereo. When using surround sound speakers audio and the T3•R was set to output surround sound, audio could be heard for HD programmes with 2.0 audio from only the left and right speakers. HD programmes are broadcast with either AAC 2.0 or 5.1, both of which the T3-R transcodes to Dolby Digital. For more info, please see the BBC’s blog post here .

The system will re-request app icons (e.g. iPlayer) if there is an issue receiving them on the first request. Pause and rewind live TV, record two programmes at once and record entire series at the touch of a button. The 1TB hard drive holds up to 600 hours of recordings, smartly organised into categories and series. The T3 will ignore retune events for transmitters that it cannot receive or are not currently tuned.Add better information about disk space usage (total used, amount of free space, amount of space used by recordings, among of space used by titles in the Trash, etc.). If you want to find specific shows to watch, you can do so via the global search button. You enter the name of a show (or even just a part of the name), and the T3-R searches within all the catch-up apps, and lets you see all the available episodes. When you select an episode, the appropriate app will automatically start with the right episode ready to play. Audio visual quality is top-notch, having the ability to stream in 4K from YouTube is welcome, and the Freeview Play interface is on the right side of leading-edge. You shouldn’t buy it if… rd channel viewing and timeshifting: when recording on two channels you can now watch a 3 rd channel. The available channels will depend on the two that are recording. If they are: The “On Demand” button displays the most popular Catch-up services, which are all in one place, providing easy access to the the world of iPlayer, ITV Hub, ALL4, Demand 5 and UKTV
