Generic name: Methyl Salicylate, Menthol, and Capsaicin Cream and Ointment [ METH-il-sa-LIS-i-late, MEN-thol, & kap-SAY-sin] A supporting prescribing guideline may be requested which must have been agreed by the relevant secondary care trust DTCs and approved by the Nottinghamshire APC. Foam cleanser replaced byMedi Derma-Pro® Foam and Spray Incontinence Cleanser in the 2021 update of the barrier products formulary.

Eucerin ®UreaRepair Plus lotion can be used if lotion required however it has been registered as ‘cosmetic’ rather than as medicines which means that it is notavailable on prescription.

This medicine may cause harm if swallowed. If Medi-Derm (methyl salicylate, menthol, and capsaicin cream and ointment) is swallowed, call a doctor or poison control center right away. Medi Derma-S Barrier Cream moisturises and protects damaged and intact skin by forming a protective waterproof barrier, preventing irritation from bodily fluids, adhesive products and friction. Registered Nurses including myself are now better equipped at identifying the differences between MASD and pressure damage and which Medi Derma-S products to ease at each stage. All staff commented on how great it was to have other speakers during the day and also how useful the MASD and barrier products sessions were. They highlighted that they had never had this teaching previously and how much it made sense. It was delivered in a down-to-earth, easy-to-understand format with practical demonstrations. Often used for drugs new to market.

Prior agreement must be obtained by the specialist from the primary care provider before prescribing responsibility is transferred. The shared care protocol must have been agreed by the relevant secondary care trust Drugs and Therapeutics Committee(s) (DTC) and approved by the Nottinghamshire APC.
