About this deal

There are still similarities in the dry down, but I prefer the fruity woodsiness of A*Men Ultimate, that almost lends this fragrance a leathery accord, and maybe some light licorice. This is a nice surprise, as I don’t get that scent from Rochas. Rochas has more of a musky perfumey vibe to it as well when it dries down. A*Men Ultimate has its own unique scent on dry down, which comes within the hour. As it dries down, hints of the original A*Men make an appearance. It becomes fruitier and brighter than Rochas, and they take different directions upon dry down. There is a hint of A*Men Pure Malt DNA in there somewhere too, leaving a slightly boozy touch. There is a beautiful woody coffee creaminess in the dry down that sets this one apart from the others. This fragrance is well-suited for men of all ages and styles. It is not too overpowering, but it is still noticeable enough to make a statement. A*Men Ultimate is a great choice for men who are looking for a signature scent that is both stylish and sophisticated. I am in receipt of your message regarding the difference between the original A*Men Pure Malt and the A*Men Pure Malt Liqueur de Parfum Creation 2013. After tonight's dinner has begun preparations, a rug and tea are brought out and served. You smell some burning wood and spiced fruits. An amber tray is brought and lit as incense. You can smell its freshness, its sweetness, accompanied by subtle notes of stones, flowers, and fragrant woods.

Once again, thank you for your time and I hope you will continue to enjoy the magic that is Mugler. It's all built on the A*Man foundation The original scent DNA is definitely there and that's good. I like the scent. The fruity notes are there as in the original, as is the malt and peat. But after a few hours, it turn into a coffee blend with caramel and chocolate, and it is here where the fusion with A*Men (Original-1996)shows up. In the original Pure Malt, I could smell the caramel and the chocolate in it, but this one its smells different, it smells stronger maybe because of the vanilla. There’s just so much going on here, and when it came out, there really wasn’t too much out there that was quite like it. From my personal experience I would be weary of when to wear this, as if someone who's into fragrances like me wasn't sure what to make of it at first, I'd be surprised if your average Joe would appreciate it like so many of us do. One thing I couldn't see anyone disliking though is the incredible dry down, which is on par with the perfect DHI for me. Not intending to denigrate anyone who likes the 'original' A*Men, but its following has been rooted amongst young males. (Actually, I suspect I encountered it on some women too.) A*Men is overtly clichéd to me, 'playing to the gallery' in the manner of Le Male and One Million. This association might in the eyes of some cast Pure Malt as slightly 'second tier' – which would be a misjudgement since Pure Malt is an evolution to be applauded and introduces Mugler to a whole new audience.

Overall, I think it’s great but I don’t think it’d be for everyone. It can be quite pricey, it is limited by the climate you live in, not for those who don’t like the smell of malt (obviously), etc. I don’t really notice a difference in the projection strength between these two. They are both pretty powerful, in terms of sillage, but not obscenely so. Plenty strong starters, that moderate, as they dry down but never get weak until deep into the wear. Pure Malt by Thierry Mugler seems to be a quite polarizing fragrance on Parfumo. According to all definitions, which I might read here so far a correct Mainstreamduft. Or maybe not?

I don’t see my preferences changing any time soon, but you never know. That’s the beauty of this hobby. Firstly, it isn't reminiscent of the original A*Men and I'm sure thats why this is getting a lot of hate. To be honest, it could be a stand alone fragrance. On a night in, this has great projection. The scent is smooth, rich and well balanced. The opening is beautiful and recalls the original A*men but is more welcoming, fresh and less intense. It's very casual, romantic and does not shout, so it'll get use on date nights for sure. Newer boozy smells are boozier, sweet gourmand fragrances are sweeter, and there is more frequently an emphasis on realistic expressions of food and drink. While I certainly enjoy those, I think they also show how balanced and ahead of it all the Mugler A*men line was, and for many, Pure Malt is the best of this line. Wow Rating: 9/10. This is a bold and very pleasant fragrance that is guaranteed to cause a good impression.

The scent of this reminds me of being in a European cafe. The Cafe is decorated with ancient carved wood panels. In the air is the intoxicating aroma from the pastries and sweets. Every so often there is the scent of coffee along with aroma of steamed milk and gelato. The newer version is horrible. My didn't last more than an hour tops, it smells diluted to my nose, you can tell that the depth just isn't there. That's 'cause my ex-boyfriend was wearing it. I asked the question about his perfume directly on the first date. The opening is to die for. Rich, dried fruits and waxy, Red Vine licorice soaked in Malt Whiskey. With an earthy patchouli and peat moss underneath that is a signature of the A*Men line. Licorice isn't a listed note, but that's the scent image my mind conjures... This one fits in the aromatic fragrance family. It reminds me of JPG Le Male and Versace Eros in that it is a joining of cool and warm. But, it definitely does not smell like these. After a day of use I noticed something. This smells very similar to Trump Empire which I really like. Empire is drier, more refined. Mugler Ultimate is sweeter, less refined--almost seemingly carelessly put together.Pure Malt may have been a great value fragrance when it was still available, but due to discontinuation and overhyping, the prices found today are not justifiable.
