DARCEY BUSSELL BRIEFS AUB STUDENTS ON DESIGN CHALLENGE". Arts University Bournemouth. Archived from the original on 9 July 2018 . Retrieved 26 October 2019.

Bussell performed the role of the mayor in the 2021 ballet film, Coppelia, a modern adaptation of the E.T.A. Hoffmann story combining live dance with animation. [21]She was echoed by Kenneth Tharp, chief executive of The Place who will also sit on the judging panel. Tharp said: “I believe we are fast becoming a dancing nation. One of the wonderful things about dancing in the UK is its richness and diversity and by putting the four categories of dance – ballet, contemporary dance, hip hop and south Asian – on equal footing, the BBC is helping to raise the bar of how dance is seen and understood within the UK’s diverse cultural landscape. I hope this year will help us all to appreciate that lives without song and dance would be very, very dull indeed.”Cassian Harrison, channel editor of BBC Four, said he wanted this year to make a strong statement about the BBC’s commitment to the arts. BBC Young Dancer 2015, which will begin in April, will see future talent compete in four categories of dance – ballet, hip-hop, South Asian and Contemporary, with the final to be aired on BBC Two in May. Bussell has modelled clothes for Mulberry, Bruce Oldfield and Marks & Spencer. She has also been photographed for Tatler, Vogue and Vanity Fair. She was famously photographed with a diamond in her mouth in a promotion for De Beers. Bussell modelled the first ever jewellery collection for the World Gold Council. She has modelled for American Express and featured in a TV commercial for Lloyds Bank. From 2009 to 2013, she was the face of The Sanctuary Spa. In 2014, she was an ambassador for Silvikrin ( Wella / Procter & Gamble) hair products. Griffiths, Sian. "Dyslexic Darcey tiptoed into school cupboard to hide agony". The Times. ISSN 0140-0460 . London. 14 January 2015 . Retrieved 26 October 2019. Darcey Bussell knows how important dancing has been throughout her life. As a prima ballerina, she found it gave her structure and confidence. And when she retired from her professional career 12 years ago, she realised just how crucial dancing had become. 'About a year afterwards it came in this massive wave that I was missing something about who I was as a person, and it was dance basically.' So today she still dances, 'different styles of dance but just not taking it to the obsession I did with classical ballet'. Rayner, Gordon (3 July 2012). "Darcy Bussell welcomes P&O fleet to Southampton". The Daily Telegraph. London . Retrieved 26 October 2019.

While Bussell was still at school, the choreographer Kenneth MacMillan had noticed her exceptional technique, and in 1988 he decided to use her to create the leading role in his ballet The Prince of the Pagodas to Benjamin Britten's music, which led to her moving to the Royal Ballet. A year later, in December 1989 on the opening night of the show, she was promoted to principal dancer at just 20 years old. [12] In 2006 Bussell became a gold medal recipient from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. [48] She is a recipient of the Carl Alan Award for contributions to dance. [49] Trained at the Arts Educational School and the Royal Ballet School, Bussell started her professional career at Sadlers Wells Royal Ballet, but after only one year she moved to the Royal Ballet, where she became the youngest-ever principal dancer at the age of 20 in 1989. [3] Bussell is widely acclaimed as one of the great British ballerinas. [4] [5] On 12 August 2012 Bussell performed at the closing ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics, descending from the roof of the Olympic stadium as the 'Spirit of the Flame' and leading a troupe of 200 ballerinas. Ballet Season

In Bury, the Silver Swans are using dance to overcome the isolation and loneliness which so often troubles people when they retire. Darcey joins their weekly ballet class and hears their stories about the value they see in dancing. To the class's surprise, she even takes them through one of their dances! In Edinburgh, Darcey meets the ladies and gentlemen of Morningside to understand how those lost to dementia - a condition that affects over 850,000 people in the UK - might be helped through music and movement. Launching the season at Sadlers Wells, he said: “I’m here because dance, song, art in its broadest sense, matter hugely to me and I know how much the BBC can offer the arts world and also our viewers when it comes to doing something really bold … The BBC acting as a creator but also an enabler, working with some of the really talented people in the arts and culture more broadly. It’s one of those things I love, which is all parts of the BBC coming together to do bigger things. This is about putting artists centre stage.” In total, she performed more than 80 different roles and 17 roles were created for her. In Sleeping Beauty alone, she performed Aurora in four different productions, one of which was Sir Anthony Dowell's production which she opened at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. in front of President Clinton. She made several guest appearances with the New York City Ballet, starting in June 1993, with a performance of the pas de deux from Agon. [17] [18] In 2012 Bussell returned to the Strictly Come Dancing judging panel for the 2012 series as a permanent judge and replacement for Alesha Dixon. [33] At the start of her first appearance as a judge she performed in a feature American Smooth, again partnered with Ian Waite.
