About this deal

The Home 150 can only output sound in mono channel (i.e. one channel), which gives it the characteristic of being very directional in its delivery of sound. Effectively, you’d need to be sitting in front of the speaker to get the best performance, while with the Era 100 you have more room to switch up where you sit in relation to the speaker. The Denon is slightly smarter Please note: TV and larger floorstanding speaker deliveries are not available to Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Scottish Islands, and Channel Islands.

The new proximity sensing high-end interface is activated as soon as your hand approaches. The capacitive buttons light up for you to touch, allowing for full, seamless control of the Denon Home 150. Ultimately, the Denon Home 150 does mostly everything you could want or need, even if the app could do with a few homely touches or even a tutorial or two. Ongoing development continued with the original core ‘Avega’ team in North Sydney, along with a second Heos R&D Centre in California, and of course Denon in Japan. Final verdictFinding some of our streaming Tidal Masters Motown list sounding surprisingly under-resolution in the quality of cymbals and strings, we used HEOS to stream our own trusted high-res collection from a NAS drive which resides in the basement. John Gorka’s The Gypsy Life, an AIX recording, did suffer an overemphasis of the low mids where male vocal resonance can reside — as in much throaty country and folk territory. This push notably blurred Gorkha’s vocal definition, and separated this region from the Home 150’s clear though isolated treble performance.

You can also pair them into stereo – still more impressive for music this way, with far more power and energy, and a full stereo spread of music. And if you’re adding Denon’s wireless subwoofer to your TV system, then you could at any time choose to pair that sub to with one Home 150, or with the stereo pair, to fill out this sound still further. A single Home 150 speaker sounds narrow in terms of the soundstage it produces, but pair it to a second and performance opens up with the kind of soundstage that many would be surprised at if they're more used to listening on just a single speaker. To pair and listen in stereo, group the two speakers together in the Rooms tab on the HEOS app and then tap the Stereo Pair slider.

A GREAT COMPOSITION.

We spent a morning streaming Tidal music via the HEOS app; at times it sounded a little flat, but given a good mix the bar could open up some nice musical pictures, and played musically enough to be enjoyed, if not to truly inspire. The HEOS app (Android, iOS) is the gateway to Denon’s interconnected ecosystem, and allows the user to rule as overlord across any HEOS devices in the home. As with the Home Sound Bar 550, we haven't given the Home 150 speaker a full Tom's Guide review just yet. But based on what I've heard from this compact speaker so far, it sounds like a worthy challenger to the top-ranking best smart speakers around, and we're planning a full rated review to follow shortly.

With HEOS Built-in, every room in your home can have its own sound. Or, group additional Denon Home speakers, sound bars, network player or AV receivers to fill the house with the same song, using your home network. With HEOS Built-in, multi-room means multiple options. A GREAT COMPOSITION. Pair two Denon Home 150 speakers using the HEOS app and enjoy true stereo. Denon Home 150 speakers work as left and right speakers to provide a Hi-Fi quality system, just without the system. Even listen to your Hi-Res collection with the accuracy and attention to detail your music deserves. GET THE AMAZING HEOS EXPERIENCE.Connection the Denon to the LAN and setting up the HEOS app is quite easy. At least if you had already done the login procedure. Sometimes Denon models ask for updates and therefore switch to some deep-sleep mode for an unknown period of time. Once the connection is established, you can literally start listening to music in seconds, because the system is identifying music on your smartphone or on a server in the network instantly. Amazingly mature bass at decent levels Prices valid in stores (all including VAT) until close of business on 29th November 2023. (Some of these web prices are cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online.) We confess we had problems pairing all these up into one system; the pairing failed repeatedly, because (it turned out after many hours) the units weren’t all on the same firmware. Yet they’d all received an update, and the HEOS app was telling us everything was up to date. But that’s in free space, listening from a metre away without much room effect. Put the Home 250 nearer a wall and the rear passive radiator comes more into play, filling in the dip from 90Hz upwards, and facilitating a rather smoother and more solid sound. It was able With the rear output firing more against a wall or corner, the uneven anomalies increased and the bass softened, but the sound became even more huge. It also retained its impressive sense of space. On a first-take bootleg of The Beatles Thank You Girl, the ping-pong left-channel drums were pushed by the angled drivers to a position wider than the box itself.

You might do adopt this arrangement if you took advantage of the ability to stereo pair two Home 350s.) From directly in front, bass frequencies sounded fairly balanced in the region above 100Hz, whereas from elsewhere in our room the combination of both bass drivers caused a frequency dip up to 140Hz, causing the separation of sound we were hearing. Different positioning and room shapes will change this unpredictably. The app also works with other Denon Heos speakers, not just Home 150 speakers, which can be paired in groups, but also Heos soundbars or larger speakers. The app allows for multi-room control of all of the Heos speakers in your house. Assuming, however, that the only speaker you have is this one, the app is still useful, as it provides access to the streaming services mentioned, as well as firmware updates. For what it's worth, we found it easier to stream audio from an iPhone via AirPlay 2 than the Heos app, which occasionally had some streaming hiccups and didn't work as well as Apple's native streaming does. Ultimately its size and power have their limits at a point beyond which congestion and distortion become evident, but that point is impressively loud for a speaker so small. As for linearity, while its response to a sweep is less than smooth, with a notable push right down low then a dip from 60 to 100Hz, the balance is enjoyable in practice, spoken voices are tonally accurate, and there’s even a good sense of atmosphere around the different elements, an especially impressive achievement when working in mono. Positioning near a wall or a corner can enlarge the sound still more, at the cost of less predictable frequency response.

Thanks to their inclusion of the HEOS platform the Denon Home range can group and communicate natively with a long list of Denon and Marantz products which carry the platform. Although a relatively basic affair, the app makes the Denon Home 150's plethora of supported streaming services easily accessible (Image credit: Future) Denon Home 150: Sound quality Denon’s Home Sound Bar 550 is two things. It’s a soundbar, quite a narrow lozenge shape of a bar, the same width as a Sonos Beam but slightly deeper, and taller, at all of 75mm. But it’s also a HEOS speaker, meaning it has the HEOS streaming and multiroom platform inside, which gives app-based access to a variety of music streaming services, also the ability to network with other HEOS speakers through the home, or in the same room. But for our initial set-up we connected only the HDMI output to our TV. With both bar and TV supporting eARC (the enhanced Audio Return Channel), we could then play in stereo or surround from TV to soundbar. HEOS compatible multi-room music systems connect together by dual-band Wi-Fi, making them easy to set up with your existing home network. Up to 32 HEOS units can be set up at one time, ensuring even the largest of homes are covered for multi-room music. With HEOS already built-in, the Home 150 is ready to go as a single 'zone' without any further adaptors.
