About this deal

This latest MAHLE Smartbike system is lighter, smarter, and overall a much more user-friendly experience. The wildest part of it all? The system weighs in at just 7 pounds (3.2 kg), and that’s including the 250 W battery option in the downtube. According to MAHLE, a battery charge should offer a quoted 100 km (60 miles) and 1750 meters (5740 feet) of climbing ability with the smaller internal battery, and up to 200 km (130 miles) with the bigger battery and range extender . These numbers are somewhat optimistic in our experience. We’ve seen riders get anything from 40 to 100 miles of range with the X35; we expect a similar number here too. Bikes with MAHLE X20

The Orbea Range Extender is an auxiliary battery for ebikemotion X35 systems, and allows you to enhance your ride by going farther than ever. This new Orbea Gain charger makes bigger challenges and longer adventures possible, providing nearly 2 hours of additional boost at maximum power assist - something unheard of in the industry. When attached to Gain, the Range Extender supplements the bike's main internal battery, which has a current capacity of 248W / h, and adds an additional 208W / h. This brings the total battery capacity to 450W / h, giving a 70% boost to the internal battery's charge. Just a technical note: Li-Po (Li-Ion) batteries don't need to be the same type, neither the same capacity and/or age, just the same chemistry, obviously, and both close in the voltage. I have enough experience in charging Li-Po batteries in parallel (RC helicopters, 4 batteries 5S (= 21V), 4500mAh, 70C (= capable > 300A) ). It is possible to connect them in parallel safely with the auxialiary pins with resistor first (to equal the total voltage), without any other electronics (there is no short circuit in such case and max. current surge is safely limited with the resistor). When connected batteries in parallel, capacity difference is not important, neither exact internal resistance of the cells (serial cells are balanced during last period of charging, parallel cells are equall in voltage by principle, Li-Po/Li-Ion RC batteries have a service connector with each cell connected separately). That may be the reason, why the range extender and main battery are charged separately (no cell voltage service connector is available outside). MAHLE intends for the X20 electric drive system to be used in lightweight, high-performance gravel, road, and cross-country bikes. All of these bikes are designed not for range or power, but to be fun to ride, and a pleasant way to get around. Bikes with the MAHLE X20 drive system include the BMC Roadmachine AMP TWO, Orbea Gain, and SCOTT Addict eRIDE.There are also now three battery options to power the MAHLE X20. The standard battery found on most bikes is 236Wh. Manufacturers will have the option of a larger capacity 350Wh internal battery for frames with more downtube space. All X20-equipped electric bikes can add a range extender battery that adds 172Wh. This extender adds up to 6000 ft of climbing ability, at least according to Orbea. MAHLE X20 Makes It Easier to Remove the Rear Wheel Delivery timescales are esimates in working days; Public Holidays, Saturday's and Sunday's are NOT classed as working days. You should always keep proof of postage and we advise you to use a ‘signed for service’ when returning goods.

Controlling assist doesn’t only need to happen through the HMI controller. MAHLE have also designed a set of optional e-shifters. These little shift buttons are wired, but can be placed almost anywhere. This allows riders to easily change assist levels from the handlebar. Currently, BMC offers the Roadmachine AMP ONE with a MAHLE X20 drive system. It features a 350 Wh battery with the option for a range extender. SHOP BMC ROADMACHINE AMP We’ve had great success with the MAHLE X35 drive unit. Not only is it one of the most common electric bike systems in lightweight road and gravel electric bikes, but it was so low-profile in it's look that the only way one might realize an X35 bike was electric was by lifting it up. The new MAHLE X20 system - shown here on a BMC Roadmachine AMP TWO - offers up plenty of improvements that make the bike a noticeable step forward. When attached to any Ribble e-bike the MAHLE range extender supplements the main battery, boosting the total battery capacity to a whopping 456Wh. This equates to an extra 70% of range, allowing you to extend your rides for longer and travel further in search of adventure. The extender works in two ways. Firstly, when connected to the e-bike system the first two amps of power are provided by the range extender. Meaning the main battery is discharged much more slowly. It also acts like a power bank and will actually charge the main battery when demand is at its lowest; while descending or above the 25km threshold when all assistance ceases. Power bank for the main battery when the eBike is stopped or over 25Km/h: When Range extender is connected and switched on it starts to works as charger for the main on if there is no consumption of the main. Perfect solution for garages without plugs or charging while ridingNo problem to wait for the answer, I just wanted to indicate, how it could be possible (current limitation resistor can be replaced with MOS-FET power transistor in range extander and more sophistic electronic controll which drive the MOS-FET resistance when batteries are connected in parallel ...). Put a BMC Roadmachine AMP next to a standard Roadmachine, and you’d be hard-pressed to tell the difference between the two bikes. Really, the downtube is slightly larger than the standard Roadmachine, and the rear end is slightly different. But what the Roadmachine AMP offers is a SRAM Rival eTap AXS drivetrain, a lightweight carbon frame, and the exact same geometry as the standard road bike. When attached to Gain, the external device charges the bike's main internal battery. The internal battery on the Gain offers 248Wh so the additional 208Wh from the X35 Range Extender brings the total battery capacity to 450Wh.
