SEES the instant flash of recognition across a person's face when he introduces himself. A carbon copy of dad's broad smile hints at the familial connection, but his name instantly reveals it. Disbelief and horror take hold when the grandson of the community’s most venerated elder is arrested for the murder of Alicia Nowell. Assuming that an error has been made and without a second thought, Jay, who by coincidence happens to be at the police station while Neal Hathorne is being questioned, strides into the interrogation room and announces that he is Neal’s attorney. Somehow I thought this book was a mystery. But the real mystery is Jay Porter...why he doesn't connect with his wife whom he loves, who loves him, and on whom he hangs his whole future. Jay and David married in May 2004, and spent the next 17 years sharing travel and food adventures, moving up and down the West Coast, with a five year stint in Chicago before finally settling in Napa, California. He was always excited to try something new and experience everything the world had to offer him. Jay was the perfect host, a generous friend, a warm shoulder, and a loving husband. He and David shared a marriage that was admired by everyone who knew them. Jay starts looking into Emily’s disappearance, and finds that everybody that knew Emily swear she has never used drugs. She is a straight shooter and is interning at a newspaper that is investigating the Center and the horrible secret hidden either in it or beneath it. Broken Ground” is the fourth novel in the “Jay Porter” series, which was released in the year 2018. While at an AA meeting, Jay meets a recovering addict in need of help. During another grueling northern New Hampshire winter, Amy Lupus’s little sister, Emily, has disappeared from the Coos County Center, which is the newly opened rehab opened by Adam and Michael Lombardi, Jay’s nemeses. given the electoral mayhem going on in the US right now, it was an interesting time for me to read this book and it felt like a good complement to the US's current election cycle. shenanigans, i tell you. shenanigans!December Boys” is the second novel in the “Jay Porter” series, which was released in the year 2016. Jay Porter, who is NorthEastern Insurance in New Hampshire’s newest employee, is investigating an accident claim. That is when he finds out the teen behind the wheel got arrested for minor drug possession and then sentenced to a rather hardcore behavioral modification center.

Edelman Digital—When Jay was head of San Francisco, there was a very strong contingent of social digital team members in the office. I was pleased with the development of the business but deeply upset by the increasing separation of the PR and digital teams. I heard about plans by the digital team to spin out of Edelman. Jay organized a dinner near the Bay Bridge, playing peacemaker between me and top executives of West Coast digital. I explained that I wanted digital in the main part of the business, not a separate unit. I explained further that I wanted the creatives and planners to work on PR assignments not just digital. Jay made the Bay Area team the model for the Edelman of today, with creative and strategy at the core. The next year, at her conservatorship hearing, Britney detailed an abusive relationship with her father and said she would ‘like to sue my family’ but stopped short of naming any of her relatives in particular.I’ve pondered over that very thing and I have to tell you, I had several problems with this story. The first and foremost being it was entirely too detailed, to the point it became rather frustrating to concentrate on the story itself. Attica is known for her detail-oriented writing, which for the most part, I really enjoy, but she truly overdid it in this one. This novel reads like a screenplay or script for a movie, wherein you’d need to know where a character enters and exits stage left, but when you’re writing a novel, it isn’t necessary to place all those intricate details into it. Among those connected people is Houston's mayor, the white woman whom Jay believes sold him out to the FBI when he was in college because of his political organizing. (He was also dating her, double trouble.) He almost went to prison then, and the scars from the experience never fully healed. So as we follow Jay in the present, we also learn about what happened *then* and the interconnections. He had abandoned that strategy somewhat as a college student at the University of Houston, where he had been active in the civil rights movement and had rubbed shoulders with people like Stokely Carmichael and Huey Newton. But as a lawyer, he had other priorities: My second problem with the story is it was too well written. I know, I know that sounds absolutely insane, but let me explain. This book was so well written to the point I could find nothing wrong with it. There wasn’t one grammatical error, everything was so perfect—too perfect, if you will. Don’t get me wrong, I’m the first to deduct points for shoddy editing, but when you write a book this perfect, one tends to not invest much time into the characters. It’s like who the hell cares about them? And that’s what upset me so because I truly respect and love this author so much. I absolutely found myself getting pissed with the overdoing of detail and the perfectness of the story. It got to the point I truly didn’t care about Jay, his issues and/or struggles and anything else. There was entirely too much detail and that drove me absolutely bonkers. Jay is able to get his brother released from the county jail and Chris goes missing into the night. While Jay starts to look for him, he gets pulled into a cauldron of old secrets and ugly lies that may tear his tiny hometown apart and threaten the Jay’s life as well as everyone’s that he holds dear. Some powerful forces come into play that are willing to stop at nothing until Chris is finally dead and the info he has is destroyed.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents Jay and Barbara Tompkins, and Gerald and Ruth Porter. He is survived by his husband David Smith, his parents Judy and Larry Porter, as well as his sisters – Julie and her husband Kasey Scott; Lyndi and her husband Brad Zavy – as well as his beloved nieces and nephews: Porter Zavy, Juniper Jay Scott, Robin Scott and Vivian Zavy. Also surviving, David’s family: Meg and David Smith, and sister Rebecca Smith of Adelaide, Australia, as well as adoring aunts and uncles, cousins, colleagues and friends across the world. Jay was held a hero for bringing down Cole Oil and he was still riding high off of that win, although he was beginning to sour on the current case he had pending. While fighting and dealing with a new beast threatening the lives of his new clients literally, a young girl is found dead during Election Night. This hit a little too close to home having a young teen himself. Who on earth would want this young teen dead? Now Jay is faced with another dilemma. Someone on the campaign trail is accused of this young lady’s murder. Several of the political players have called upon Jay for his expertise and literally begging him to help defend the young man accused of this crime. Well, that is, one political figure in particular seeks out Jay’s assistance for his nephew, who is the one being accused of the heinous act. There’s murder, mayhem and political tug-of-wars so what’s not to love about this story, you ask? You know when you take that first step forward energized by plain ol' impulse......things will not always work out in your favor.Sometimes I get to talk to him before (the visit), sometimes I don't," Porter Sr. said. "It's not really anything I have to prepare him for in that situation, because at this point in time all you have to do is just go in there and be you, be a good person. Let them see that." Much has happened in attorney Jay Porter's life as well. He has become more widely known and successful after his victory in the Cole Oil case that the previous book recounted. But his personal life is in shambles after his beloved wife died of cancer the year before. He is left to raise a teenage daughter and his younger son on his own and he doubts he is up to the challenge. In response, he has virtually given up his practice in the interim. He presently has one case pending; he is representing the community of Pleasantville in its suit regarding a chemical fire that caused severe damage. But the case seems to be going nowhere and some of his clients are beginning to question his dedication to it.

Memories & condolences

The political undertones of this novel did not improve it for me. Unfortunately, I had issues with that part as well. No use in going into those. I loved Jay Porter as a professional, as a creative genius, as a ball of energy and a human being above all. He made the most of his short time on earth. We will remember him in our new Chicago office as one of those who transformed Edelman. He was the best of us.
