As an abstract, Maanzecorian was considered narrower in scope than Ilsensine, who embodied psionic union with the self and the realm of universal knowledge. Maanzecorian represented the ideal of total understanding, a state in which one's thoughts, experiences, and innate talents were all simultaneously brought to the forefront rather than conceptualized one at a time as needed. Mind flayers that emulated Maanzecorian had long been fascinated by the perfect memories of the aboleths, [4] who possessed a racial memory that passed from one generation to the next and could always be flawlessly remembered, [17] leading to frequent conflict between the two races. [4] Clergy [ ] Illithids were known to dress in flowing and dramatic robes and cloaks. [15] They were rarely seen without distinctively two-lobed boots, which concealed their webbed feet. [17] They often wore high, flaring collars, dark hats, and various other pieces of ornamentation. [15] Personality In the television show, Vecna–before he was Vecna–was Henry, a young child who moved to Hawkins with his family, the Creels, in the '60s. He exhibited powers from a young age and generally terrorized his family, eventually killing them. Dr. Brenner found Henry and began working with him on his powers (he's the first child Dr. Brenner found, so he's tattooed with the number 1). When Dr. Brenner realized Henry was too powerful to contain, he injected him with a chip to neutralize his powers and keep him subdued. The Mind Flayer is very similar to the Elder Gods of H.P. Lovecraft, with his work actually tying into the Stranger Things universe, with Lisa from the novel "Darkness At The Edge Of Town" being a graduate of the infamous Lovecraftian college "Miskatonic University".
Season One
They capture a hostage named Alexi from a secret laboratory and take him to Murray, because Murray is the only guy around who speaks Russian. Alexi turns out to be a sweet guy and all these interactions are pretty funny until Alexi is killed by the Russians. (Alexi is the Bob of Season 3, basically). Visual-effects producers Paul and Christina Graff were tasked with designing the creature. Because the first season incorporated several electrical interferences, they knew the second season would involve storms. Once it was decided the monster was “storm-like”, the Graffs began reseraching the look of storms and tornadoes. Steve Messing, a matte painter who was also consulted on the designs of several other Stranger Things elements, created concept art of the creature based on tornadoes, volcanoes, and other natural forces. In addition, they were inspired by volcanic eruptions with lightning storms in South America. [1] He also had a base for his spies and proxies near the Caverns of Thought in the Outlands known as the Rotting Oracle. The structure was half-sunk in an oily mire, and housed the end of a one-way portal from Gehenna between two of its pillars. [9] [12] Activities [ ] In Volume 1, we discovered Eleven removed Henry's chip and Henry in turn...killed everyone in the lab except for Eleven and Dr. Brenner. Henry offers to take over the world with Eleven and Eleven, horrified, decides to kill Henry with her powers. Unfortunately, she accidentally sent him to the Upside Down and opened the first ever portal. So this entire time Henry's spent time gaining his powers and becoming Vecna, waiting for the chance to take over the world.

After biting her with one of its tentacles, the Mind Flayer's proxy left a piece of itself inside Eleven, severely weakening her telekinesis later that evening; her powers would eventually fade completely, and would not be restored until the events of March 1986.

Possessed humans are colder to the touch than average, to the point where the temperature around possessed humans significantly decreases. The possessed Billy uses "we" pronouns to refer to itself, suggesting that the Flayed may maintain vestigial traits of individuality even while part of the Mind Flayer's hive mind. This time around, Will isn’t possessed but Billy is—and Billy is a much more dangerous vessel for the Upside Down. He begins bringing people from around the town to the creature where they are later absorbed into a giant, grafted monstrosity—the Mind Flayer again, but this time made flesh by the corpses of rats and then later humans. By melting these possessed bodies down, the mind flayer merges them all into one, giant, six-legged monster that keeps gaining more and more mass with each body that's melted down. It's pretty creepy, and really gross. After the gate was successfully formed, the Upside Down's psychic link to Hawkins was also re-established, reviving the fragment of the Mind Flayer laying low at Brimborn Steel Works. The cloud of particles began possessing hordes of rats, and had them consume different types of chemicals; many of the rats would then explode into bloody puddles of biomass to create a proxy form, through which Vecna (via the Mind Flayer) could operate in the human world.
After digging into the pumpkin patch's soil, Hopper descended into a subterranean tunnel overgrown with vines and biological material originating from the Upside Down. As he was exploring, he encountered a strange growth that sprayed a cluster of spores in his face, causing him to lose consciousness. Hopper guided Eleven through the lab to the Gate, so that she may finally close it for good. Drawing on all her strength and pain, Eleven successfully used her powers to seal the rift. Vecna and the Mind Flayer's psychic link to the human world was cut off, causing the Demodogs and the tunnel-organism to die. The particles of the Mind Flayer’s fragment scattered across the floor of Brimborn Steel Works: dormant, but not destroyed. The broader entity was known as Ilsensine, which embodied a mastery of one's own mind and a union with universal knowledge. Mind flayer colonies interpreted this concept in different ways.
