About this deal

This dwarf variety reaches a height of only 80 cm (31 inches) making it ideal for the smaller garden or for growing in a container. It produces an abundance of double creamy-white flowers and can tolerate most conditions including coastal situations. This shrub stays compact and neat and will rarely need any pruning. Philadelphus ‘Microphylluss’ Choose healthy stems without any buds or flowers, then, with a clean sharp knife, or secateurs, cut off a stem about 4 inches long. Remove the lower third of the leaves from the stem, dip the stem in rooting hormone powder and put into the prepared holes so that about one third of the stem is beneath soil level. Firm the soil around the stems and mist the pots with water. Mulching your plant can help prevent spores from re-infecting the plant. Keep the mulch a few inches away from the base of the shrub to prevent rotting. All debris from the plant should be removed and put in the rubbish or burnt rather than composted to prevent re-infection. Pruning is a vital part of keeping your Philadelphus little white love healthy and looking its best. It helps to encourage new growth and can also help to control the size and shape of the plant. Pruning also helps to remove any dead or damaged leaves and stems. About Propagating Philadelphus are extremely easy to grow and are tolerant of most conditions. Planting and maintaining one of these shrubs is simplicity itself. Pay attention to pruning times to get the most abundant summer blooms. Light Requirements

Suttons strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3. If planting in a container, choose a medium to large pot depending on the variety chosen. Make sure you choose one of the more compact or dwarf varieties for best results. Container grown plants will need to be kept well-watered, especially in dry conditions. They will also benefit from an application of fertiliser such as blood, fish and bone, three times a year. Maintenance The petite Philadelphus Manteau d’Hermine is a dwarf and only grows to a height of 60 to 80 centimeters with a spreading habit of 1 to 1.5 metres. However, don’t let the shrub’s diminutive size fool you because it produces an abundance of double blossoms. Its compact form rarely requires pruning to stay neat and tidy. The virtually carefree shrub grows throughout Britain and Ireland. It even thrives in coastal regions. It was awarded the esteemed Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society. Philadelphus Virginal These shrubs can grow in most soils from heavy clay to light, sandy soils or chalk. They are happy in acid or alkaline soil and they can also tolerate salt. They have a very deep root system and so are unaffected by dry weather. They will, however, need to be kept watered for their first year until the roots are well established. Fertiliser Requirements Thankfully the spectacle does not stop there - as the blooms finish, they shed their petals like a snowstorm, carpeting the ground with their discarded beauty.Philadelphus Innocence is a large erect shrub with arching branches, laden with semi-double white flowers. It is highly scented and attractive to butterflies and bees. It reaches a height of 3 metres (10 feet) and a spread of approximately 2 metres (6-7 feet). Philadelphus ‘Lemoinei’ This variety has an arching habit, especially in mid-summer when it is laden with pure white, highly-scented flowers. It’s spread can be greater than its height, reaching 2 metres (7 feet). Philadelphus ‘Beauclerk’ Philadelphus 'Virginal' – beautiful, double flowers with a beautiful scent. Height x Spread: 3m x 2.5m From spring to early summer, large, soft-green leaves cover the upright stems, making the perfect foil for other, more colourful flowers. Then, from May onwards, the 'Little White Love' buds burst into huge clusters of beautiful snowy-white double blooms, smothering the tree from top to toe and releasing its delectable scent.

Philadelphus rare rarely troubled with pests and diseases and even when affected they do not come to much harm. There are a couple of things to watch out for, however, to keep your plant in the best of health. Pests The showy Philadelphus Schneesturm is a German variety of the above-mentioned Philadelphus Virginal. In case you are looking for a highly decorative flowering shrub to be grown as a specimen, this cultivar is ideally suited for that role. With its maximum height and spread of 2.5 metres, Philadelphus Snow Storm is a match for both spacious and small gardens. This attractive shrub is loved for its profusion of heady pure white flowers that bloom from June through to July and good autumn colour. The arching stems look positively regal when the leaves turn to a hue of molten gold! Philadelphus Lemoinei Your Philadelphus should be moved to a larger container if its roots become overcrowded. Planting in a new, slightly larger pot will give the roots more space and allow for more soil around the roots which will help keep them moist and provide them with nutrients. Looks Good WithPhiladelphus can easily be propagated by softwood cuttings. Propagating Philadelphus by Softwood Cuttings Discussing fertilizer, this plant does best with a moderate application of fertilizer in the spring. I prefer a balanced fertilizer such as 10-10-10. A little fertilizer goes a long way with this plant, so be careful not to overdo it. Too much fertilizer will result in lots of green growth with fewer flowers. About light About soil condition, Philadelphus 'Little White Love' prefers moist, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. It also does well in sandy soil as long as it is not too dry. The plant is drought tolerant once established. About light Take softwood cuttings in springtime. If the weather has been exceptionally dry, water your parent plant a few days before taking cuttings. Cuttings should be taken in the morning when the plant is full of sap. Consider using this variety as a feature on a patio or balcony, by planting in a pot and swaying the delightful scent throughout your seating area.

The temperature condition is perfect for Philadelphus little white love. They like it cool and shady, so a temperature around 60 degrees is ideal. They also like moist conditions, so make sure the soil is well-watered. Humidity Requirement If you are growing philadelphus 'Little White Love' in a pot, choose a pot that is twice the size of the current pot. Philadelphus 'Manteau d'Hermine' – a compact variety with double, pompon-like flowers. H x S: 75cm x 1.5m Philadelphus'Belle Etoile' – a popular choice, this is a compact philadelphus with single white flowers with purple centres, appearing in late spring and early summer. H x S: 1.2m x 2.5m Of course, they make a great addition to a white garden, but they also look good with blue flowering shrubs such as Ceanothus. In fact, their white blossoms go well with most colour combinations from cool blues and violets to hot reds and yellows. Pruning Advice

About Propagating

Philadelphus ‘Lemoinei’ – an unusual variety with pale green leaves and white flowers that have a yellow centre. H x S: 1.5m x 1.5m All varieties of this evergreen shrub blossom profusely, most with double white flowers and yellow stamens. In mid to late summer the entire shrub will be covered with blooms. These blossoms are very attractive to bees and butterflies and so are a good choice if you wish to entice wildlife to your garden. Most varieties will flower from June to July, though some are a little later. Plant bare-root plants in the dormant season (winter), when the ground is not frozen or waterlogged. Alternatively, pot up into a container to grow on
