About this deal

A planet is any body orbiting the Sun whose mass is sufficient for gravity to have pulled it into a (near-) spherical shape and that has cleared its immediate neighborhood of all smaller objects. By this definition, the Solar System has eight planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Because it has not cleared its neighborhood of other Kuiper belt objects, Pluto does not fit this definition. [4] This timeline generally does not distinguish achievements by a specific country or private company, as it considers humanity as a whole. See otherwise the timeline of private spaceflight or look for achievements by each space agency.

Quaoar (43.69AU average from the Sun) is the second-largest known object in the classical Kuiper belt, after Makemake. Its orbit is significantly less eccentric and inclined than those of Makemake or Haumea. [169] It possesses a ring system and one known moon, Weywot. [172]

Its orbit is close to circular, and orbits near the Sun are at roughly the same speed as that of the spiral arms. [232] [233] Therefore, the Sun passes through arms only rarely. Because spiral arms are home to a far larger concentration of supernovae, gravitational instabilities, and radiation that could disrupt the Solar System, this has given Earth long periods of stability for life to evolve. [232] However, the changing position of the Solar System relative to other parts of the Milky Way could explain periodic extinction events on Earth, according to the Shiva hypothesis or related theories, but this remains controversial.
