About this deal

Please do NOT wrap the wool around one toe during an activity. The wool naturally felts and shrinks and stay fibres could tighten around the toe, restricting the blood flow. We would like to reassure you; that this is a rare occurrence and will not happen if the instructions for using the wool are followed. When I’m choosing a blister kit for hiking, there are several features I consider to ensure I select the best product for my needs. These include items in the kit, weight, durability, and ease of use and hiking safety. If you’re going on a long distance hike, you may consider bringing an alternate pair of shoes because of blisters. If you absolutely must pop a blister (for example, if you’re traveling and can’t see your doctor), use caution. Metzl suggests cleaning the area and needle with soap and water and following with an antibiotic ointment. Then be sure to clean the area regularly to prevent infection. You could end up making a very small problem much bigger by puncturing the barrier. You should also leave small blood blisters intact, too. Otherwise, you risk getting bacteria in your bloodstream. Cover it up so the swelling goes down, then try to fix the problem that caused it. Here are some methods to treat small blisters:

What type of blister bandage or patch you need depends on whether you're trying to prevent blisters from forming or whether you already have blisters you're trying to protect and heal. Look for patches made from soft material that are the appropriate size you need or can be cut to size. These FDA-approved and USA-made wound closures are perfect for outdoor enthusiasts like me. The microstaples used in the closures are tiny and painless, ensuring that the wound heals well without the stress of traditional stitches. While out hiking or camping, the microMend Emergency Wound Closures can save users an expensive and time-consuming trip to the ER.

The contents of the Blister kits are only products that we use in the clinic, everything has been tried and tested, alongside being evidence-based. As a lifelong runner, hiker and physical therapist, I often get asked how to prevent blisters and then what to do when the dreaded blisters occur on the trail.

Apply a non-adhesive island dressing (NOT a ‘Compeed’ type dressings). Ensure that the blister is covered by the non-adhesive part of the dressing. I would recommend the Blister Medic kit for avid hikers who want a complete and reliable solution to prevent and treat blisters. The wool is so soft, making it less itchy and irritating on the skin. It is free from dander and lanolin which are known to cause more commonly known allergic reactions. As a result of these properties, the wool stays cleaner for longer when compared to sheep or lamb's wool. What should Alpaca wool not be used on? Hydrocolloid dressing come in all sorts of sizes and shapes, however, all of them treat open wounds/ blisters. Choosing the correct size for your blister is most important as it should cover the blister and a good section of the surrounding skin to attach onto. The larger blisters need a bigger hydrocolloid especially when located on the front of the shin or top of the foot, whereas the toes and side of the foot favour the smaller dressings. They can be cut to size with sterile scissors, which we provide in all our blister kits.

The recommended time on the wound is from the manufacturers and is approximately 5-7 days but some wounds will produce more fluid than others and the dressing may need redressing more frequently, but most blisters, they will be fine to leave on for a week. We have had some patients leave them on for up to 8 weeks and they have been ok, but we always defer to the manufacturer’s recommendations. On occasions there can be a white area in the centre of the dressing showing after a few days, and this is totally normal. Why are medical hydrocolloid dressings so much more expensive than over the counter blister plasters? KT-pro tape is our go-to tape to prevent blisters alongside hypafix. KT tape can be used for blister prevention and also for sprains and strains, which can often happen during strenuous activity. This is a "confused" blister kit. Firstly, if you watched the video and are under the assumption blisters are a second degree burn, I can tell you they are NOT. Also, the Glacier Gels needs some explanation. I quite like them. However, the video says you can put these on intact and torn blisters and that they're 50% water, which concerns me. My comments on Glacier Gels are:
