About this deal

After another 4-6 weeks, plants will be outgrowing their pots and ready to move on. You can either pot into an intermediary 1 litre pot or they are ready for their final positions. Final pots should be 7 to 20 litres, depending on how much space you have. Again, using a free draining compost/coir mix, carefully pot on. Being derived from a coconut, the pellets have enough nutrients to sustain your plants, not to mention a neutral pH range of 5.2 to 6.8. Peat, for example, has a more acidic pH level of 3.3 to 4.0, which would require extra additives to make growing conditions more comfortable for most plants. For larger seeds such as tomato simply drop 1 or 2 seeds into the a coir pellet. I prefer to cover these larger seeds with a sprinkling of Vermiculite. (see offer) Everything in between the shell and the outer coating of the coconut seed is considered coco coir. There are two types of fibers that make up coir — brown and white. Brown coir comes from mature, ripe coconuts and is a lot stronger but less flexible. White fibers come from pre-ripe coconuts and are far more flexible but much less strong.

Mixes can be expensive: Garden suppliers know that coco coir can be annoying to work with sometimes, so they’ve started to offer coconut coir mixes. This saves a lot of time but is pretty expensive — and making your own mix isn’t too difficult. Types of Coco Coir We are an authorised dealer for Jiffy products. Always be aware of cheap imitations, as the results you will get from them when growing and propagating will not be the same as the genuine article. Coir Pelletsare also easier to use (no more clearing up plastic / polystyrene pots, because the pellets simply rot down in the soil after use) and produce healthier, faster growing plants. Coir Pellets are compressed coir pellets are ideal for sowing seeds or for rooting cuttings. Add water to them and watch them swell to make the ideal growing medium (3.6cm in diameter) . To protect the sensitive roots make sure to completely cover the Jiffy-7 pellet in the flower bed, or pot that you are using when planting them. If you enjoy raising your plants from seed but hate the hassle, you might want to try coir pellets. For germination of seeds, pellets are an easy, fast, and clean method.
