Deputy-Director General Diana Taverner approaches another member of Slough House, Jed Moody, and instructs him to do some " off book" work for her. Two other members of Slough House, Min Harper and Louisa Guy, meet in a pub after work and lament their failed careers. River and Sid decide to tail Hobden, but she confesses that she was assigned to Lamb's team to keep tabs on River. The two see a masked man enter Hobden's home and pursue him, discovering upon entry that Hobden was able to destroy his hard drive with thermite. Hobden escapes as River and Sid fight the masked man, who escapes after shooting Sid in the head.

" 'Slow Horses': Gary Oldman & His Slough House Spies Tease Season 3 As Apple TV+ Drama Series Heads Into Production For Season 4 – Watch". Deadline. Archived from the original on 27 March 2023 . Retrieved 14 March 2023. Dead Lions” was mostly successful on that front. It is an enjoyable story, and the characters that were established in that first book take some steps forward here. There are also some new characters introduced that show how easy it will be for Herron to freshen up the mix at Slough House as the series moves along. The new characters fit in well, and you get the sense there is more to them that will be explored in subsequent stories. There are also a few curveballs tossed into the narrative that raise the stakes of the game for all of the characters. I wont spoil anything except to say that while there is an element of humor to the story, it doesn’t mean there isnt real danger afoot. Spook Street is one of the darker novels and what little comic relief there is, is provided by Roddy Ho getting a girlfriend, a plot thread which is pulled in the follow up novel, London Rules. It also lays the ground for the events of Joe Country, and at the same time introduces a series villain, ex-CIA operative Frank Harkness. This novel is a series highlight for me, and went on to win the CWA Ian Fleming Steel Dagger Award as well as being shortlisted for the CWA Gold Dagger Award, The British Book Awards and The Theakston Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year Award.

Slough House, Book 4 | Spook Street

There’s something Charles Partner used to say about ops. The friendlier the territory, the scarier the natives.” Herron (Down Cemetery Road, 2009, etc.) provides a dour, twisty spy thriller with something for everyone: part post–Cold War miasma, part James Bond heroics, and elliptical withal.

Paul Hilton as Robert Hobden, a disgraced and struggling journalist with ties to extremist far-right groups. Herron struggles a little bit with judging whether his readers are going to recall the characters from the first book and I found his little reminders of why they were in Slough House irksome. When former spook Solomon Dortmund sees an envelope passing between hands in a Marylebone cafe, he knows he's witnessed something important. When he relays those suspicions to a man who babysits retired spies, however, he sets off a chain of life-changing events. Steven Waddington as Jed Moody (series 1), an ex-member of "The Dogs", an MI5 internal affairs and tactical unit.Hobden meets with Judd and tries to convince him to go public with the information that Hassan's kidnapping is a setup, only to be rebuked. Curly is seen making a series of discreet calls with a burner phone, implying he is Taverner's mole. Hassan tries to escape and is threatened by Moe. Giving him a chance to save face, Taverner offers Lamb's team the opportunity to signal to her man the raid is about to commence, allowing him to escape with Hassan. He, River, Min and Louisa arrive at the property but upon entry discover it empty aside from Moe's beheaded corpse.

Rade Serbedzija as Nikolai Katinsky, a former KGB agent living in exile in London after defecting at the end of the Cold War.As Lamb investigates Bow’s death, and as Guy and Harper draw closer to the date of Webb’s meeting with the oligarch, their separate plotlines begin to converge, leaving readers wondering who’s conning whom, and to what end. Dead Lions is a superb follow up to Slow Horses and proves that the Slough House series is well placed to have a long life, even if you can’t say the same for his characters. James “Spider” Webb – Schemer and dreamer who unrealistically sees himself climbing the ladder past many people much better at scheming than him. Alongside this, Arkady Pashkin, a Russian oligarch, has been invited to talks by the slimy James “Spider” Webb in the Needle and he has seconded Harper and Guy to babysit him – a term that seems to mean both protect him and keep tabs on him – for those talks. It did not come as a huge surprise that these two plots were connected by the end of the novel, even if it felt just a little forced. Next up was a stand alone mystery novel titled Nobody Walks published in the US by Soho on 17/2/15 ISBM 9781616954864, again no UK equivalent. The book drives together drug dealers, spooks amongst others and there are links to the Slough House series and some of the characters. Its a book that is best read between Dead Lions and Real Tigers.
