About this deal

This wine is ready to drink and does not require decanting. The bottle should be kept upright, protected from light and at a cool and constant temperature. Wine & Spirits, December 2017 – 90 points “A finely blended Port, this has a bristle of tannins up front, melding their chocolate richness with dried fruit flavours, ending clean and sweet. The wine’s lasting spice places it with a savory pumpkin pie.” White wines, generally crisp, mineral-driven blends of Arinto, Viosinho, Gouveio, Malvasia Fina and an assortment of other rare but local varieties, are produced in small quantities but worth noting. Few port producers have maintained such consistency of quality and style from vintage to vintage. From the legendary 1840, Fonseca's first Vintage Port release, to the iconic 1868 and the extraordinary 1927, 1948, 1977 and 1994, all four of them 100-point wines, the house has produced a succession of highly acclaimed wines.

The wine benefits from being served between 16ºC to 18ºC. The particular qualities of this wine allow it to be enjoyed over an extended period of time once opened, without losing its freshness and vibrancy. Optimum drinking time after opening the bottle is two months. Fonseca Bin No 27 was created over a century ago for family consumption, and only released commercially in 1972. Manoel Pedro Guimaraens who founded Fonseca in 1822, created this special port reserved for his family and kept in Bin No.27 of their private cellar. Anthony Dias Blue, Tasting Panel, USA, February 2018 – 91 points “A blend of select reserve Ports chosen for their full-bodied palates; dark ruby colour; smooth and dense with toasty notes and rich, ripe, and deep flavours.”Bin 27 is a rich, fruity wine made from a blend of reserve wines. It is sold all over the world, with particular popularity in the North American market. Bin 27 shares the heritage and style of the great Fonseca Vintage Ports, as well as much of their depth and character. However it is bottled when ready to drink and can be served by the glass directly from the bottle. Blended for consistency of character and quintessentially Fonseca in style, this reserve blend provides reliable and affordable value. Excellent with bitter chocolate with a high cocoa content or a plate of chocolate brownies or truffles. Like all youthful red ports, Bin 27 is a match for soft ripe cheeses. Fonseca Bin 27 has sweet and macerated fruit on the nose, initially with a little confectionery and violets, nevertheless very traditional with plenty of fruit, a moderate substance and a gently creamy mid palate. He settled in England, where his company remained based until 1927, when the headquarters of the firm returned to Portugal.

Fonseca's respect for the vineyard and the unique environment of the Douro Valley expresses itself in the firm's leadership in the field of sustainable and organic viticulture. It was the first house to offer a Port made entirely from organically produced grapes. Fonseca was founded in 1815 and is regarded as one of the most stylistically consistent of the classic Vintage Port Houses. Vintage Port runs like a continuous thread through Fonseca’s history, from the legendary Fonseca 1840 to the superb declared vintages of the present day, their consistency deriving not only from continuity of family involvement and the knowledge and skill passed down from one generation to the next, but also a close link with the vineyard. This is enveloped in the rich succulent jammy flavours and velvety texture of the wines of Panascal and overlaid by the exotic heady scents of Santo António. Founded in 1815, Fonseca port is one of the leading Port wine companies, famed for its vintage port.

Fonseca Bin 27 is very well suited for the classic port and cheese combination. A good farmhouse cheddar would be perfect. It is also delicious with desserts made from dark chocolate or berry fruit. Using wines from Cima Corgo and Douro Superior, areas in the center and east of the Douro valley, they created a full-bodied, smooth and densely fruity wine, within a style once known as "vintage character", but which today is often known as a reserve or "finest reserve" The idea of combining different vintages allowed them to create a wine that would be entirely consistent in style from one bottling to the next. Half a century earlier, the company had the custom of naming their Crusted Port wines, also made in a full-bodied, fruity style, using the numbers of the compartments where the wines were stored. These cellar-like compartments are called "Bin"; hence the wines were called Bin 740 or Bin 82 VG. Reviving this tradition, Alistair decided to name the new wine Bin 27. A differentiated presentation was created, painting the name prominently on the bottle with white paint and the Fonseca insignia in red. The bottle with the painted letters was later imitated by other Port wine brands, being replaced in the mid-1980s by an elegant paper label.Fonseca traces its origins to 1815. Fonseca Guimaraens was then founded in 1822 when Manuel Pedro Guimaraens acquired the majority share of the Fonseca & Monteiro company holdings. http://www.fonseca.pt/en/vineyards/ Throughout the generations, the Fonseca secret has been passed on to the next family member, who imparts richness and structure of both dimension and finesse across the range. Fonseca Siroco is traditionally enjoyed as an aperitif, served chilled in a wine glass. It can also be poured over ice in a high ball glass and topped with tonic water and a fresh mint leaf or a slice of lemon. A superb balance of ripe fruit, delicate acidity and elegant notes of wood aging. Full and fruity on the palate with a lingering finish.
