You need to determine if the entire building was built at one time or if it is comprised of multiple constructions built at different times If the nail was found in a building, what is the age of the building and when were renovations or additions made to the building? Considering the context in which a bit of metal such as remains of an iron spike are found is about all that's left. Location and what we know about the history of that location can offer some reasonable hypotheses about the object. Dating from 1590 in England, as the earliest report of nail production, the earliest reported cut nails in America are reported to have been cut, essentially by-hand, by Darrow in 1772 (Federal Writers Project 2013) with other authors crediting the Wilkinson brothers somewhat later, ca. 1783 (Benedict 1883).

I can't see enough of the metal objects to have an opinion of what was their intended or original use, but in some of the photos it looks as if we're seeing flat-rectangular metal shanks that may be a clue to age and use. There is a very long history of iron ship spikes, their production and use, and interestingly, in some locations, their re-use. Characteristics diagnostic of manufacturing technique are retained in the microstructure of iron nails even though the original surfaces are lost in corrosion.
