Scrubbable wallpaper can also be scrubbed clean using a soft brush and mild detergent. However, oils, fats and other solvent-based stains must be cleaned immediately to be successfully removed from the surface. This indicates the depth, in cm or inches, of the wallpaper illustration. Wallpaper is printed using cylindrical rollers, with the design attached to the circumference of the cylinder. As a result after each revolution of the printing cylinder that pattern is printed again. This is the repeat - the design on the final printed wallpaper is repeated each time the roller turns. For example, visually you may see that every now and then on a wall the same flower head appears. This is the pattern repeating. Pattern repeats are often accompanied with a measurement, for example 64cm. This would indicate (in this example) the distance between the appearances of the first flower head and the second flower head. The biggest rollers - 64cm or 25" will give us the largest design repeat depth. Some designs repeat several times on the roller so create a much shorter design repeat, for example from as little as 2cm or 1". What is the 'pattern match' on my wallpaper? Paste the Wall' wallpapers peel off easily when it's time to redecorate so there's no need for steaming or soaking. Simply lift a corner at the base of the wall and peel upwards. When you inspect a wallpaper label sometimes there will be a symbol relating to the removal technique for that wallpaper. Knowing what strategy must be used to remove your wallpaper at a later date will save you a lot of time and effort in the long run. There are three main wallpaper removal techniques.Wet Removable – Wet removable wallpaper can only be removed from the wall with a liquid solution such as using a stripping agent or soaking the paper with water. You will then need to manually scrape away the excess paper. Extra Washable– The symbol formed from three wavy lines identifies the paper as extra washable. This wallpaper can be used in kitchens and bathrooms as it is more resilient to damper environments. However, please do remember that it is not waterproof so must be kept away from direct water sources such as an area that may be affected by splashing water. Basically, don’t hang it next to a shower or sink.
TOP TIP: Although there are various ways to clean your wallpaper, ensure that you only clean your wallpaperas indicated by the symbols on your wallpaper. If there are no symbols on the label the wallpaper is not able to be cleaned using any methods stated below.

Ready Pasted– Ready pasted is not as common in the UK but you might occasionally come across it. This paper has already been pasted and needs dipping into a water tray to activate the paste before it can be hung. An offset match design is identified with two arrows pointing towards each other but at offset levels. This is seen as the most difficult to hang however once you get your head around it it's definitely not something to avoid/shy away from! The design on an offset match wallpaper happens diagonally rather than straight across. The edge of the wallpaper only matches the edge of the second strip when it is dropped by a specific distance. This is usually specified on your label for example 64/32cm. 64cm identifies the pattern repeat and 32cm is the displacement. When hanging this type of wallpaper it's usually easiest to match and cut your strips on the floor/paste table before pasting and hanging.
This type of wallpaper is more cleanable than the ‘ spongeable ’ type of wallpaper above, however it is still vulnerable to water damage. Light fastness is simply the degree to which your wallpaper will keep its colour in sunlight. Naturally any wallpaper and even some material if exposed to direct sunlight over a few years will lose colour. Light fastness gives you an idea of which wallpaper will last longer in areas of higher sun concentration and which are best used on walls and in rooms with less direct sunlight.It’s important to remember that although it is scrubbable , it is still paper and aggressive abrasives, significant pressure or strong cleaning chemicals are still liable to damage the paper.
