The nursery children are eagerly awaiting a visit from a bassoon player. Archie decides to come along too, and he invents a musical instrument to play along with her. Edie McCredie wants to go on safari in Balamory, but it sounds too much of a challenge. Can PC Plum manage this?

Miss Hoolie has been asked to babysit Caitlin's dolly, but Edie accidentally sits on the doll and breaks it. What can she do? Everyone is unhappy at Spencer for messing things up, to which he finds out that he has forgotten to wash his hands and is covering everything he touches in green paint. In modern versions of ancient tales, the tension that characterises the relationship of mother and daughter is usually encoded. The father's sexual partner is more likely to be presented as a stepmother than a mother, for example, but it is a ruse that should fool no one. In cruder versions of fairy tales, the monstrous mother is a regular presence. Snow-White-Fire-Red, for example, has an ogress for a mother, who wants to eat her young lover. The witches too are mother figures, even when they are cannibals (especially when they are cannibals). Every mother is a giant witch to her small child sometimes. The nursery children are playing a hospital game and Miss Hoolie asks Archie to invent something to play with, something that doctors and nurses use. And you can have these missiles too while we maintain control Ch: Creeping, creeping footsteps around the world

Little Red Riding Hood is an outgrowth of the motif of the woman coupled with a carnivorous beast, which is what we would expect of a culture in which women married young and husbands were more likely than wives to survive. Every child attending a parish church would have witnessed the burial of women who had died in childbirth, some with their newborns in their arms, others with babies not yet born. The fact that nobody discussed such matters with children would have made the events all the more frightening. Evidence of the terror of virgins marrying men who had buried several wives can be found only rarely, and then in devotional literature. The only other place it could be expressed was in encoded form in fantastic fables. Charles Perrault is credited with the invention of the story of Bluebeard, which is clearly indebted to folk tales. If we consider that a nobleman was more likely to have married very young wives than a peasant (who needed a grown woman with her full complement of skills) and that these women endured their first pregnancies at the ages of 14 and 15, we can see at once that marriage to a nobleman was a high-risk business. Rumours ossify into legends. In some versions of the tale, as in the tale of Conomor the Accursed, the Bluebeard figure kills his wives when they become pregnant. Hiring a party entertainer or bouncy castle is a good way to keep kids entertained without too much work on your part, or you might be planning an activity party such as swimming or soft play, that has entertainment built in. Statues, also known as Red Light, Green Light in North America, and Grandma's/Grandmother's Footsteps or Fairy Footsteps in the United Kingdom is a popular children's game, often played in different countries. There are variations of play throughout different regions of the world. While the Caller is looking away, the other players are permitted to move, and they attempt to advance on the Caller. The objective is to get close enough to the Caller to tag them. It's also a good idea to have a few party games up your sleeve. Plan for a few more than you think you'll need so if one doesn't go down well, you've always got another to try. From pass the parcel to treasure hunts, we've got loads of party game ideas in our gallery and you'll find plenty more for every age group in our party games section.

In the 1942 Merrie Melodies short The Case of the Missing Hare, Bugs plays a statues game on the magician while Ala Bahma charges at Bugs to kill him. The third chapter of the 2017 game Faith: The Unholy Trinity features this game as a method to obtain the key to progress. The player must collect the key and return without being caught by the cultist and the gray demon. Failing to comply will result in death. Church halls, village halls and community centres are often cheap to hire and usually have chairs, tables and kitchen facilities so you can do your own catering. A loud booming voice is keeping Balamory residents awake, including Miss Hoolie. PC Plum is on the case, and finds out it is coming from Archie's newest invention – a noisy music machine. PC Plum must find a way to put it to good use.If you do nothing, you will be auto-enrolled in our premium digital monthly subscription plan and retain complete access for 65 € per month. When the Brothers Grimm collected the story from German sources, it had already been influenced by Perrault's literary version, which was the first to specify that the heroine's hood was red. Jeanette Hassenpflug is supposed to have told the tale of Little Red Riding Hood to the elder Grimm, and Marie Hassenpflug to the younger. For the first edition of their collection Kinder- und Hausmärchen (1812), the brothers used both versions, turning the second story into a sequel to the first and calling it Rotkäppchen. They revised the story several times, using supplementary material, some of it told them by Henriette Dorothea Wild, who married Wilhelm Grimm in 1825. By degrees the monstrous fantasy that underlies the core story was exorcised and it became a mere cautionary tale. The old wife did not need to point her moral; if she wished her hearers to judge the events she was describing in her story and come to specific conclusions, she had only to stress different elements in it. If she wanted children to think that the wolf got to her grandmother because Little Red Riding Hood was indiscreet, she had only to tell the story that way. If, on the other hand, she wanted to make them aware of wolves as a constant danger, she told the story in a different way again. While they promise us everything we've ever wanted Hush now, don't you cry, don't you realise your crime? In this scene, King Duncan is sleep in his bed chamber, protected by two guards. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth have been persuaded that the crown of Scotland is theirs for the taking by the prophecies of the Three Witches. As a further precaution, Lady Macbeth has added a sleeping potion to the guard’s wine.

The children place their bag and their coat somewhere between the start line and Macbeth. When they reach the items they have to put them on. This can act as the camouflage used by Malcolm’s army as they become Birnam Wood moving towards Dunsinane Hill.It is easy to see how the expression "old wives' tale" could come to mean a superstitious, irrational and untrue statement, which is to be rejected out of hand. Even the Oxford dictionary defines an old wife's fable, story or tale as "a foolish story, such as is told by garrulous old women". I dare say my story of the most beautiful frog in the world was foolish; the frog in question was far too like a human child, but it isn't foolish to tell a story in which the frog heroine is in constant danger of being eaten and keeps making friends with the very animals that are most likely to eat her. Like most tales of its foolish kind, my story was didactic but it did not moralise. The little frog is exposed to terrible dangers but I made no attempt to make it seem her own fault. Meanwhile, the children squealed and cried and clapped and cheered, and fell asleep. If the child's imagination is to work, the story must not be explained away, nor should the child intuit what the grown-up's reason for telling such a tale might be. Cautionary tales emerge from a very different mindset. Edie tries to buy a Spice Girls CD from Suzi and Penny's, but they're all sold out. When she doesn't get anything else she's looking for, Josie helps her help Suzie and Penny find out what everyone else likes and doesn't like. In the Japanese manga As the Gods Will and its 2014 film adaptation, it is one of the games the students are forced to play with a Daruma doll. Spencer wants to tell the children the story of Princess Sally, but he can't remember how the story goes.

To make it more challenging, put some hats, wigs, scarves, shoes, handbags or other items of Grandma costume on the floor. Make it a rule that you have to put on a hat or an item of clothing before you tap Grandma on the shoulder. In the 1987 film RoboCop, the titular character is seen playing the game with elementary school children in footage shown during an in-film news report. Penny uses the hats in Edie's lost and found box to tell the children a story about different people who might wear them. Edie is helping a friend fit a new toilet in the bathroom of her friend's house. The problem is that she only knows a little about toilets.Macbeth– The witches prophesied that Macbeth would never be defeated until the Birnam Wood came towards his castle. Malcolm (the rightful heir to the throne stolen by Macbeth), commands his forces to use branches to disguise their approach. PC Plum has promised to take Miss Hoolie out for the day, but he has double-booked himself, as he has also promised to go on a fishing trip with Spencer on the same day.
