About this deal

So what materials do you need to make a scrunchie the easy way? Here are all the supplies you need to make a scrunchie -

Step 1: Cut a rectangle of fabric that measures 22″ long by 3″ wide. Fold the fabric piece in half lengthwise with the right sides together. Pin in place. Crushed Velvet looks expensive and dramatic but is a little harder to sew as it tends to stretch a little. Use this once you have made a few from regular cotton fabric. This method will also work with elastic bands (although I recommend hair ties because they’re less likely to snap). If you don’t have a sewing machine, you can use hand sewing or a hot glue gun for a no-sew method. The steps are still the same. When I filmed my video, I just tied the ends in a knot. A few people commented that it would add bulk, but really the knot is so small you won't feel it. I also had a few comments that the knot would come undone, but I've never had that happen. If you don't want the knot to come undone, then just pull tight. Do what is easiest for you and fits your time schedule and patience level. Personally, I always take the fastest route! Step 6: Stitch the ends Step 7 - Final Stitch of the EndsNote: If you are using a velvet fabric like I am, you might want to use more pins than normal to prevent the fabric from shifting under your presser foot.

Step 3: Using scissors, clip the curves. (This creates a smooth outer edge when you turn the fabric right side out.) Turn the bow right side out through the remaining gap. Press if desired. Match up the folded edges, so the hair tie is inside the fabric. If this looks confusing to you, scroll up to watch the video tutorial. Once you’ve gotten the short end to meet each other, match up the edges with the right sides together. Use pins to secure the layers. Sew with a 3/8″ seam allowance. Step 4. Turn right side out. You can find the patterns for these scrunchie bows after the pattern for the scrunchie itself. Best Fabric for ScrunchiesHair scrunchies can be made in a wide variety of fabrics to match your style and your wardrobe. Each type of fabric will give the finished scrunchie a slightly different look. Here are the instructions for cutting out your fabric and elastic. Plus, I’ve given you some advice on customizing the size of your scrunchie to fit your style. Fabric You will start your seam from 1 1/2 inches down from the top edge and end your seam 1 1/2 inches up from the bottom edge. I like to use pins as a visual reminder of where to start and stop my seam. Almost all steps can be completed with a sewing machine — there is only the tiniest bit of hand sewing required. That said, if you don’t have a sewing machine, you can easily hand-sew all of the steps. (I’ll show you how to modify this pattern into a no-sew project, too.) Scrunchies with Knots, Bows, or Tails

I’ve researched a LOT of scrunchie tutorials, but there aren’t many methods for hair tie scrunchies. So I sat down and brainstormed my own way. I definitely think this is the easiest. Then, once you’ve made the scarf piece, tie it onto the scrunchie. You can secure the bow with a few hand stitches or a dab of fabric glue to keep it from untying. How to Make a Classic Bow Scrunchie This pattern doesn’t take shortcuts – so I can’t promise that it’s the fastest one out there on the internet. But I can promise it will give you a scrunchie with a professional-level finish and no visible seams!January 2022 update: the scrunchie pattern has been updated to include more sizes! You can now make mini, regular, large, and XL scrunchies. The new design is based on the 13 professional scrunchies I bought and deconstructed. Then, pin the second safety pin to the other end of the elastic. Use the safety pin to feed the strip of elastic through the tube. When you’ve finished, you should have both ends accessible through the opening on the side of the tube. Scrunchies are made from a rectangle of fabric. So what are the measurements for making a scrunchie? Here is a scrunchie size chart: SIZE You can use any type of fabric, including silk fabric, cotton or Lycra fabric. Try and choose a fabric that is lightweight so you can get a nice gathered effect around the elastic.
