About this deal

From across the pond, we have the Copper Spur HV UL2. Anyone who’s seen or owned an MSR Hubba Hubba 2 will recognise the configuration of the Copper Spur. As designs go, they are very similar which goes to show that MSR is the brand to beat. The flysheet is 15D ripstop nylon, coated on both sides with MSR’s proprietary Durashield PU, and finished with taped seams. The inner is almost entirely made from 10D polyester micro mesh, with a bathtub groundsheet made of the same material as the rainfly (again 1,200mm HH). The mesh inner keeps the tent weight down while ensuring excellent condensation control. In terms of waterproofing, the Hydrostatic Head rating is 1,200mm. We couldn’t be happier that U.S. based brand Big Agnes have started to bring their well thought-out and fully featured tents to our side of the pond. This, the Copper Spur HV UL2 is very similar to that of the MSR Hubba Hubba NX in that it’s inner pitched first yet can be used freestanding and without the fly when conditions are more favourable. Best suited to ground conditions where pegging out is a possibility, the low-profile design ensures a stable structure along.

Ripstop flysheet with 1200mm waterproof polyurethane coating / seams taped with waterproof, solvent-free polyurethane tape / single porch / single door / lightweight pole system / lightweight plastic clips attach tent body to pole frame / 4-way high volume hub pole design. If you’re looking for a two-person tent that’s even lighter than the MSR Hubba Hubba, MSR also offers the FreeLite 2. Designed for ultralight adventures of all descriptions, this tent is all about maximum space-to-weight, without compromising too much in terms of overall protection or durability. More lofty hikers will find the headroom more than enough – at 100 cm high there should be no need to hunch over. Unless you’re abnormally tall. It’s three-season rated and is completely free from any eco hazardous PFCs. Instead, there’s specifically developed DWRs that are kinder to the earth, and recycled fabrics used all throughout. That got us thinking though, that we’re looking at every possible item from Terra Nova so it would be good to narrow our search down even further and only look at Terra Nova branded products within the 2 man tents category. The cost of Terra Nova 2 man tents Price – as you’d expect the price of a product can be an instantly recognisable factor on what sort of quality you can expect. Whoever came up with the phrase “you get what you pay for” pretty much hit the nail on the head. Whilst it’s not always the case and there are many bargains to be had, you can as a general rule, expect the higher priced products to offer better quality than a the cheapest option. We’ll dive into the price of Terra Nova Laser Compact 2 Tent in more detail in a moment. Like the Snugpak Lonospere, the Vango Helium UL1 can’t match the high-end, premium features of some of the tents in this list; nor is it as competitive as the likes of Snugpak on price. But this means it fits neatly on its own, in the middle, providing a mid-range option with an excellent balance between weight and price. In fact, it’s pretty good value considering how light this is, measuring just 1200g. It features a Protex 3000mm waterproof flysheet, 70 denier nylon fabric ground sheet and useful vents which allow air flow to combat condensation. Handily the hooped main pole has a high arch on it, meaning you can comfortably sit up inside. The single forked pole design makes for an easy pitch, while Nemo’s own ‘Flybar’ extends headroom space by giving two additional attachment points for the inner thus widening the width of the roof. This simple freestanding design can either be pitched inner only, or with a lightweight flysheet.

The most notable feature of the bivvy, however, is that you can wear it. Yes, you heard right… you can have the bug net closed around you (or left open), but sit up and perform camp chores with just your hands on the outside. Cooking, reading and organising your gear are all easily performed, whilst your head and body are protected from bugs and inclement weather. It sounds a little bizarre, but in practice, it’s actually very, very useful. The overall design is sturdy, reliable and will suit those who like to be as subtle as possible when they wildcamp. Due to the technical fabrics used, it’s apparently impossible to tape the seams along the pole sleeve. They should be able to keep most moisture out anyway, but for just-in-case protection there’s an external pole cover which handily will add a bit of extra sturdiness to the overall structure. Protection. A tent is useless if it can’t protect you from all that Mother Nature has to throw at you.
