About this deal

Up to 180 cuts in 10cm x 10cm cedar on a full M18™ HIGH OUTPUT™ 5.5Ah battery charge for outstanding productivity. It has a 6″ blade, making it a bit bigger than most of the best mini chainsaws that tend to only have 4″ bars. One of my mini saws also has a 6″ bar, and I must say it is nice to have the extra length from time to time (I can swap the 4″ and 6″ around). Yes, it only has a 6-inch bar, but besides that, there is a bit of weight behind it. It comes in at just under 5 lbs, making it almost as heavy as a regular light chainsaw like the ECHO CS-2511T which weighs 6 lbs. Up to 180 cuts in 10 x 10 cm cedar on a full M18™ HIGH OUTPUT™ 5.5 Ah battery charge for outstanding productivity M18 FUEL™ HATCHET™ pruning saw delivers outstanding power and torque to cut hardwood without bogging down

Including the bar and chain, the tool is 18.5 inches long. Clearly, that’s more compact than standard chainsaws or reciprocating saws and much easier to maneuver around branches you want to keep. Instead of using a tool-free chain tensioner, the Hatchet uses a single-stud design that requires a scrench. The upside is a more secure hold on the bar, so you spend less time re-tensioning over the course of the day. The scrench stores onboard, making any adjustments you need to make more convenient. M18 FUEL™ HATCHET pruning saw delivers outstanding power and torque to cut hardwood without bogging down. For runtime, Milwaukee tells us that you can make up to 120 cuts in 2-inch oak on a single charge of the 4.0Ah battery that comes in the kit. Paired with a hedge trimmer for branches up to 3/4-inch, a chainsaw for branches over 3 inches, and the Milwaukee M12 Fuel Hatchet for everything in between, one battery is plenty to get through a full day of landscaping. What About Using a Reciprocating Saw?Milwaukee is committed to improving productivity by providing performance-driven and trade-focused solutions so users can perform an entire day's work on one battery system. The M18 FUEL™ HATCHET™ is fully compatible with the entire M18™ line, now offering more than 250 power tool solutions. The Milwaukee M12 Hatchet Pruning Saw is one of the premium mini chainsaws – in fact, it even costs a fair amount more than the Stihl GTA 26. You will need 4.0 battery or more to really get some decent run time but 2.0 will work for a very limited time. After a week of use I’m buying 2 of the m12 5.0 high output batteries. Should get me through most of the day or about 5 or 6 pruning jobs cutting small limbs and 3in to 4in limbs. The unboxing and setup happen at about the 5-minute mark after a rundown of all the specs and features.

MILWAUKEE, WI – Continuing its leadership in battery-powered saws, Milwaukee Tool introduces the M18 FUEL™ HATCHET™ 8” Pruning Saw. The HATCHET™ delivers increased access and control, with the power to cut hardwoods, and is the fastest cutting pruning saw. Weighing less than 5lbs without a battery and featuring a compact design, the M18 FUEL™ HATCHET™ offers increased access and control in tight spaces compared to full-size chainsaw solutions. The saw’s advanced ergonomics and optimized design increases control and maneuverability in application to revolutionize the way users get the job done. The M12 is also quite a bit heavier, but when you see it in the videos below, you’ll understand why – it’s bigger! This saw is fabulous! It makes cutting such a simple pleasure. It's called a Pruning saw but does far more than that. No more hand saws or SawsAll for larger branches or wood. Beats the hell out of the larger corded Homelite electric chain saw I have. There's no contest. This mini saw is quite unique in that it has a bar and chain oil reservoir that must be topped up before use. Most mini saws require this to be done manually with a small oil bottle.

Features

There’s a variable speed trigger to control your cutting speed up to 984 fpm. Practically, it’s not only much faster than a hand saw, but it’s also much less fatiguing. Everything was simple to use. The saw did NOT come with the oil it requires. But the battery charged in less than a day, so by the time I got some oil it was ready to go. The oil reservoir level is easy to see as is the battery power level. And they say the saw won't work if the battery charge isn't sufficient, so you wont get a slow moving chain. I'm not familiar with how much oil a chain saw should use or have remaining on it's blade but this doesn't look any different than the HomeLite saw it's replacing. And of course I haven't messed with the chain itself but the nut wrench is stored out of the way on the saw and the directions appear simple to follow. As stated in the video above, these tools are excellent for getting into tight spots and ordinary chainsaws cannot. Then there’s the action of each saw. Reciprocating saws have much more vibration than chainsaws, and the Hatchet is a far more comfortable tool to use for pruning.
