Use Zinsser BIN Brush Cleaner to removed dried paint from brushes This is a common problem. It is likely the paint used previously is allowing moisture through to the plaster walls and ceiling causing the flaking, i.e. loss of adhesion. During winter the plaster has been absorbing moisture leading to the flaking problem. The ceiling will need to completely dry out before any painting is carried out. Leaving windows and the bathroom door open as much as possible, minimising use of the shower etc will help speed up the drying out process.

Fences, garden furniture or exterior wooden doors, it’s pretty unanimous in the decorating world which waterproof paint we’d choose if we could! Sandtex Flexigloss (or Flexisatin if you want less of a sheen) is hands down one of the most durable waterproof paints with a stated guaranteed 10-year durability, although many tradesmen will tell you it could easily last longer than this before it’s in need of maintenance. Wood surfaces are particularly prone to water, and areas like window sills and frames, skirting, exterior walls and surfaces are prone to damp. Weathershield products, wood sealants, glosses, and specialty damp paints are all suitable as water resistant paint for wood. If freedom to customise is your top priority, this anti mould additive might be the solution you’re looking for.Whist each damp seal paint claims to provide the same comprehensive coverage and act as a durable barrier against moisture, not all damp seal paints are equal! Honestly, it’s the only product I’d trust in such conditions, and many decorators I know say the same thing. Colours are sold in the nearest tin size but actual paint volume per tin may vary up to 10% depending on colour One thing you should bear in mind is that this particular paint is solvent based so it’s imperative that the area you’re working in is properly ventilated before, during and after application and use an M3 fume mask for added protection. If you’re suffering from mould, mildew or condensation issues in your cellar or garage, a good quality waterproof paint for concrete will go a long way. One of the most common waterproofing coatings for exterior walls is waterproof masonry paint. This comes in a variety of chemistries, including thermal shielding and pliolite options, and protects masonry from water and weather. It prevents water seeping into walls from the outside, but does not affect water in the walls from damp. There are also clear waterproof paints based on nanotechnology, which seal the wall against water. These only provide temporary protection, however.

To ensure fair pricing, we split colours into ‘Price Bands’ to group together similar priced colours. If you wish to search for the cheapest tinted colours, always select Price Band 1. Simply resolve the cause of damp, clean up the affected area, then paint over with your chosen damp paint. While PVA will offer some form of protection from damp, it will not totally seal a wall for long-term protection.Zinsser Perma-White Interior Matt Paint–is ideal for areas where a low sheen finish is desired. As a durable paint with a long lasting protection against mildew and mould, this matt finish will be ideal for basements and kitchens. Cleaning shouldn’t damage the existing paintwork if the correct products are used. We recommend using dish soap, warm water and a sponge to clean surface mould. Use kitchen roll to remove excess moisture, which could cause further mould or dampness. Diluted bleach can be used on white walls for stubborn mould, but it will remove other paint colours.
