About this deal

The combo inputs automatically switch between mic and line sources based on plug type, and the 60dB of gain handles low-level signals well. The input LEDs do the job, although there's no option to switch them to output monitoring. One minor issue: in some circumstances, the monitor mute and level can be a bit slow to respond. Focusrite say it's a software problem that'll be fixed soon in an update. In your VoIP application, select your interface in the audio settings, noting the application may display the input device as Microphone and the output device as Speaker. Incl. USB cable (type C to A) and Hitmaker Expansion software bundle (Ableton Live Lite, 3 months Splice Sounds membership and Plug-in bundle for songwriting, mixing and mastering)

In addition, you have two high-headroom instrument inputs so you can record your electric guitar or bass with no clipping or unwanted distortion – just crisp captures of the performance. This device desperately needs hardware controls for user settings. With that, all Focusrite would really need to do to provide Linux support is to make the device USB class compliant. Unfortunately, since the driver is proprietary, the Linux driver is a reverse-engineered one that works but still has some issues, the device being as new as it is. The free/open source community will fix the driver issues in time, and the device is already quite usable, but all the troulbe make one beg the question: why make things so difficult, Focusrite? The third-generation Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 boasts the expandability of audio interfaces more than twice its price, making it a compelling choice for growing home studios. The ‘Air’ mode, inspired by Focusrite’s legendary ISA preamp, adds a unique breathy detail to higher frequencies, perfect for injecting life into vocal recordings. Next up, 24-bit/192kHz converters offer unprecedented clarity for an interface at this price point. Intuitive, Professional, State-of-the-art

Three Month Avid Pro Tools Subscription: get a taste of the industry-standard recording experience with this legendary DAWUK manufacturer Focusrite has made world-class mic preamps for decades. The 3 rd Generation’s mic pre is the best to ever feature in the Scarlett range. Expect a warm, dynamic response that’ll take care of any instrument with ease. The Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 comes with eight of its own built-in inputs, two of which are accessible via the front panel via microphone/instrument combo connectors. The rear panel features six additional microphone inputs, as well as eight line inputs; users may connect line inputs and microphones concurrently and toggle between the two, but the interface is limited to eight inputs total. For access to the extra 10 inputs, you’ll need to bring your own ADAT- or S/PDIF-compatible equipment and connect it to the corresponding ports in the rear of the interface. This slim audio interface is fully equipped with the inputs, outputs, and digital synchronization with other devices you’ll need. Getting started with the 18i20 unless you use head phones with 55 ohms impendence you'll get immediate distortion. And when you do use headphone with 55 ohms or higher it sounds like shit, but without the distortion.
