Every drop of our AdBlue produced, is certified to VDA standards, & ISO 22241 prior to release from the production facility here in New Zealand. Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) is a technique used to clean up diesel emissions. This means your vehicle treats it like fuel and won’t run properly without it. Unlike diesel or petrol it is not injected into the engine,instead it is released into part of the vehicle’s exhaust. When heated in the exhaust, it decomposes into ammonia and CO₂. The NOx from the engine exhaust reacts inside the catalyst with the ammonia and the harmful NOx molecules in the exhaust are converted to harmless nitrogen. In fact, AdBlue® can reduce your NOx emissions by up to 90%! Using the diesel engine fluid that meets specifications is essential because low-grade DEF will contain impurities that will harm the SCR system in your hardware, and result in it working ineffectively and allowing your engine to release harmful gases into the atmosphere. AdBlue is a colourless liquid made up of high purity urea and deionised water, and vehicles with SCR technology will have a separate tank filled with it. A convenient way to store AdBlue for operators with limited storage space or who only run a few vehicles that require AdBlue. AdBlue must be stored in a cool and well-ventilated container or specialised AdBlue tank. The fluid must be kept out of direct sunlight, at an ideal temperature between -11℃ and 30℃. The liquid is made up of a mixture of urea and deionized water that’s sprayed into the exhaust system It’s actually quite difficult to put diesel in your AdBlue tank as the receptacle is smaller than the diesel pump.

How the SCR system works is: diesel combusts within an engine, and as it does so, it is forced through the exhaust system and expelled out into the air that we breathe. Because petroleum products have trace impurities such as sulphur and nitrogen that occur in crude oil and are still present after it is refined, the high pressure and temperature of the engine allows for the formation of NOx particles.
