About this deal

There are a few types of air conditioners on the market, ranging in price and ease of installation. Energy efficient: Unlike other heat sources that consume large amounts of energy to generate heat, portable air conditioners only need to move heat, thus consume considerably less energy. Two-stage compressors have more than two operational levels. Between OFF and MAX operation, there are several other settings, such as Medium and Low. In a central air conditioning system outdoor air is pulled over the condenser via a large fan. The outdoor air may be hot but it’s not nearly as hot as the condenser – i.e. it’s colder than the condenser. This facilitates heat transfer from the condenser to that warm outdoor air. There’s one big warning I must give, though. The owner’s manual states that this air conditioner uses 9 amps of power, but I noticed that it can draw up to 13 amps if outdoor temperatures rise above 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

Size is critical when choosing heat pumps, especially the size rating of the appliance relative to your home/space. Both are 14,000 BTU units according to the old standard for measuring BTUs. Using SACC, we can clearly see how the Whynter has a better cooling capacity compared to the Honeywell. As I mentioned, this unit serves double duty as a space heater. I didn’t use the hot air function too much, but it’s efficient — although you need to hook up the supplied continuous drain line. POWERFUL & QUIET: 14,000 BTU (ASHRAE) / 9,200 BTU (SACC) cooling capacity | 13,000 BTU (ASHRAE)/ 8,200 BTU (SACC) heating capacity; Noise level (dBA): <56 As I said, ARC-110WD is designed for smaller spaces. Together with the reasonable price tag, it works great in an appropriately sized room.Honeywell MM14CCSBB 14,000 BTU portable air conditioner + Heat Pump – Best In-built Portable Air Conditioner

Most importantly, note how the equations above fully take into account the major inefficiencies of single hose units: Single-hose models are more affordable and easier to set up but tend to be less efficient. Dual-hose units cost more upfront but use less energy once they’re running and have better cooling performance. You’d been to uninstall the portable air conditioner in one place and install it in a different spot – a tedious and, often, costly process.

It’s certainly interesting to compare the inefficiencies of single hose vs dual hose portable air conditioners. This is an expensive machine that is easy to move around but ultimately offers poor cooling abilities Filter: If you're sensitive to airborne contaminants (like I am), choose a unit with a standard activated carbon filter, like my #1 Whynter portable air conditioner. Additionally, aim for portable AC units that have washable filters to save some money on replacement filters. Choose a dual-hose unit with separate hoses or a hose-in-hose design based on whether you want flexible positioning or better insulation. The heat is then dumped into your rooms while the cold air (from which the heat was extracted) is blown outside the house. As such, portable heat pumps can be incredibly energy efficient. The average heat pump can provide enough space conditioning at as little as one-quarter of the cost of running a conventional HVAC system. What is a Heat Pump? Another value-adding factor is the ARC-122DS’ low power consumption, matched only by the Midea AC unit. With a 12 SEER rating, this portable AC can keep your home cool without impacting your energy bill that much. The dual-hose design provides better efficiency. The EcoFlow WAVE 2, for example, can cool your space much faster, dropping the temperature from a toasty 86°F (30°C) to a comfy 68°F (20°C) in just five minutes.
