With the GPD G1 we get 60 frames per second at 1440P and below. At 4K we see some decent results, but not above 60 frames so you would probably want to lower the graphics a bit. The GPD WIN MAX 2 measures 8.9 x 6.2 x 0.9 inches (22.7 × 16.0 × 2.3 cm) when folded and weighs 1005 grams making this an extremely portable handheld gaming PC, easily fitting into a laptop style bag or case. It’s our highest FPS by far on a handheld, the next closest was the ONEXPLAYER Mini 5800U at 88 FPS. You can also install other operating systems if you are familiar with the process and the potential risks it involves. While it is unlikely you can break the hardware, you would likely need to uninstall Windows, install another OS and configure it. I genuinely believe that with some solid driver updates this device would be perfect but for now I have a few little irritations hence the 4 stars. The GPD WIN MAX 2 2023 opens up to reveal the massive 10.1” touch screen display. It has a maximum resolution of 2560×1600 but is set to 1920×1200 by default. It is a great screen for gaming, media and working on. For 15W we got an average FPS of 42.55, at 20W we got 49.28, and at 30W we got 57. All very good scores! At 1600P we got just 23 FPS which is still respectable considering the game demands and resolution. Benchmark Summary and Comparison 30W TDP Comparison As part of our GPD WIN MAX 2 review we will now run some gaming benchmarks to see how well they perform. From the system benchmarks, the 32GB/1TB performed the best overall so we will use this for the benchmarks. We are running the benchmarks at 800P resolution at 15W, 20W and 30W, with one additional test at 2560×1600 (1600p) at 30W. This is the highest resolution the display supports. Forza Horizon 5 Next we have Cinebench which tests the CPU to see its performance with either single or multi-core tests. In our multi-core tests we got scores of 11501, 11507, 10991. Update Windows, Firmware & Drivers Below are the system benchmark comparisons for 30W TDP. You can see on PassMark that the faster 2TB makes a difference in the score as it includes disk performance tests, But the 2TB model does fall behind in the other tests. The two 1TB models have very similar scores across the other tests. Both portable gaming PC’s are perfectly usable right now and definitely worth considering. However if you are not patient and want the best performance right now, you may want to wait for some decent drivers. Powering the GPD WIN MAX 2 is a 67Wh Li-polymer battery providing up to 14 hours of light use, 6-8 hours moderate use and 3 hours of heavy use. In our own tests on the handheld we ran Cinebench on full load at maximum brightness and got 2 hours 5 minutes. For wireless communications there is 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 support. There is an optional module (sold separately) for 4G LTE for Nano-SIM cards. The power button features a fingerprint sensor for securing logging into your device. There is a built-in 2MP camera and microphone which is ideal for video conferencing.

Extract all the contents. Copy all files to a freshly FAT32 formatted USB drive and insert into the USB port. With power supply connected, switch on your MAX 2 2023 and press F7 until the boot option menu. Select the USB drive and the BIOS will update. Do not switch off your device during the process. What you’re actually here for, the GPD WIN MAX 2 2023 has got in spades. Windows is far and away the best platform for gaming. It’s the gold standard the likes of the SteamOS try to emulate, we’ve got full-fat Windows 11 on the GPD WIN MAX 2 2023. Whatever you can do on your gaming PC you can do here. Other Operating Systems The device / controller rumble is annoying and far from immersive as they claim. It's more like a mosquito than a rumble and I find it highly annoying so try to disable it in game wherever possible. Test if micro sd & sd card can be read. A lot of users were having issues with it disconnecting and reconnecting. This problem doesn't immediately show up, so if you use SD and Micro SD a lot, I would monitor this. At 15W TDP we get average frames per second of 96, at 20W we got 113 and at 30W we got 127. And at 1600P we got 69 frames per second. All WM2 comes with the same PD 20v 5A charger with a 1 meter cable in box, the charger uses the Chinese/US two prong plug and comes with an adapter for your region if your plug is different. Touch screen deadzones. Make sure all corners of the screen can be touched correctly. (I'd recommend touching and dragging each corner on the desktop to test this) As expected everything we tried works great on PlayStation 2. You can lower the TDP and/or increase the screen rendering for higher quality visuals. You should not have any issues at all with PS2. PlayStation Portable – PPSSPP For anyone having SD/MicroSD disconnect/reconnect issues, the wonderful Ciphray has found a temporary solution that will work until GPD comes up with a fix. It lowers your SD readers speeds to USB 2.0 speeds, but they will stop having problems.

Detach the spacebar keycap (find tutorial on YT for laptop keyboards in general, the principle is the same) - be very careful! We can see the scores are fairly close to each other, but again we see that the 32GB/2TB model does fall behind in each of the three tests. CrystalDiskMark Emulation wise I have been playing Metroid Prime and F-Zero GX at X2 native resolution and they run full speed with no issues. The two 1TB models have the same SSD and we see near identical scores for them both. The 2TB model does have a different brand and we get over 5000 MB/s a second. As we mentioned this was the brand we were supplied with by GPD, but this may change for the retail versions. Gaming Benchmarks

It has far higher performance than any of the previous handhelds from GPD, AYANEO and ONEXPLAYER. If this is the first of next-generation handheld gaming PC’s to set the bar, then we can’t wait to see what the others can do. A tool for automatically managing game settings based on eGPU status and hotplugging oculink/PCIe eGPUs(EARLY DEVELOPMENT) The GPD WIN MAX 2 gaming ultrabook features the latest in processor technology AMD models available. In our fan noise and temperature tests we ran Cinebench for 10 minutes at the default 28W TDP and measured them both. We got a highest temperature of 63 degrees and highest fan noise at 63 dB.
