About this deal

Take your Dash Cam inside and plug it into mains power or a computer using the Nextbase provided USB cable. Even after a long car journey there is virtually nothing in the battery, so often the last recording is corrupted as it cannot save the file correctly when the ignition is switched off. The dash cam itself is smaller and more discreet than the 512GW, too, 35% smaller in fact. The adhesive mount is much smaller than the suction one though, so that's something to bear in mind if you're conscious of how much space the dash cam will take up on your windscreen.

NEXTBASE 512GW DASH CAM (725/5346) - Argos Support

The Hi and Lo resolution files improve the speed of the Wi-Fi transfer, if you do not ever use this feature we're working on a setting to turn this off. Thanks for this. So assuming both units are plugged in all the time, when switching on, you would still get that prompt ie where the pip should appear? There are plenty of settings to adjust - including resolution, duration of recording (1, 2 or 3 minutes) and exposure, as well as switching audio recording on and off or setting a number plate for your vehicle. Things like Parking Mode - which records for a short period of time when the car is parked if it the G sensor detects an incident - time stamp and speed stamp can be switched on and off too. The new Nextbase range takes microSD cards up to 64GB - we're currently using 32GB microSD cards in ours. As for the batteries, they've been upgraded along with the rest of the dash cam hardware. They range now uses Lithium Polymer batteries (3.7V/320mAh) and intelligent battery charging with thermal cut out in the circuity – this ensures the batteries now charge at the correct rate depending on their temperature and dramatically prolongs their life. Should I buy one? Battery out of 412gw which is slightly large than the original and should last a bit longer was 10 quid from nextbase including next day delivery. The biggest and most irritating issue I have with 512GW with rear cam is the need to switch off and switch on to cure a fault (this is Nextbase own advice). The 512-G signals a new generation of dash cam. We’ve listened to consumers who noted that crystal clear image quality on an in car camera is vital. Having added a host of new features to ensure that the 512-G stands head and shoulders above others in the market, we believe the 512-G will be the best dash cam on the market for some time to come. “Glare and reflection can result in poor and distorted footage no matter how good your dash cam. But the polarising filter in the 512-G completely eradicates this problem completely – the first, and only dash cam in world to do so.” basically YES. If the rear camera is not plugged in at power on, then none of this happens ie no PiP appearance at all - and this is as it should be. Just make sure you keep the short screws for the plastic cover of the GPS module and the long screws for the GPS base if I remember correctly and note the positive and negative sides when I soldering it. Take a picture or use a sharpie and mark them on the metal heatshield. Unplug the power cable, turn the Dash Cam on and time how long the Dash Cam stays on for. The time it takes for the battery to drain will help us identify the root cause

Review: Nextbase 512GW and 512GWRC dual dash cam

The 512GW is a mid-range dash cam from Nextbase, a company originally set up in 1999 to import portable entertainment systems from China. Since then, Nextbase has developed quite a large range of dash cams, so it’s a surprise that this is our first experience of the brand in this area – although we have come across the company’s other products, for example with the Walking Cinema Portable DVD Player. I've fixed mobile phones and gopro cameras before so I have some skill in this area but I don't want to attempt the impossible.Yes that obviously works - do you ever upload footage to any other device? I do regularly, so probably that's why the problem bugs me more than you. I also use the 512 in another vehicle, although not the rear camera that stays permanently in my vehicle.

Please remember that after this test your Dash Cam will once again need charging as the battery will be flat. Plug your Dash Cam in. Ensure the cable is plugged directly into the Dash Cam and NOT via the mount. There’s a photo mode as well, which you can select instead of video mode. This captures images at a resolution of only 1920 x 1080. You can take pictures with the Record/OK button on the right-hand side of the screen. This could be a useful feature if you need to take some shots of damage at the scene of an accident, although the images aren’t very high resolution. Nextbase 512GW – Optional safety featuresIncreasingly, motorists are using footage to prove that they weren’t at fault during incidents so visual quality is a vital component of the purchasing decision. Insurers are also recognising this now, with 29 of the UK’s major insurers now accepting in car camera dash cam footage as part of an insurance claim. Furthermore, there are immediate financial benefits for motorists using a dash cam. So the 512GWRC has now no longer in production or sold by us. Regarding Rear Cameras there are 2 options: In daylight, you should be able to make out number plates and signs with no problems, unless they’re simply too far away.

The front cam is attached via a suction mount, while the rear camera is attached the rear windscreen via adhesive mount - which means it shouldn't ever fall off even if you slam your boot door hard. However, the mount is very, very adhesive so make sure you get it in the right place first time because it's very difficult to remove. When you set up the front dash cam, it'll ask what position it's placed (top left, top right etc) too.

The mount includes a mini-USB connector that you can attach to the long car power cable. Unfortunately, this has a non-removable car cigarette light adapter at the other end, so you won’t easily be able to hook up the 512GW and a satnav to automotive power – unless your car has a USB connection and the satnav can make use of this.
