About this deal

It has been my experience that column rads don't always seem to give the same enjoyment of the heat compared with standard rads. I assume that is because they convect the heat higher up. I therefore suggest that they are slightly oversized compared with the calculated heat output required for the room. In practice when we are in the new lounge we often have the door to the original lounge open allowing a free flow of air between the two rooms. The powerful radiators in the original lounge supply heat to the new room when the door is open. The door to the kitchen is often open too so all three rooms have their temperature averaged out. Clean your pipes with wire wool and measure the gap between the pipes before measuring and cutting the joining piece and cleaning that with wire wool. Apply a small amount of flux to all the joining points and inside the fittings and connect the pipes together ensuring that they are fully inserted. Step 5: Solder Pipework Once the pipes are inserted, it’s time to solder the pipework. Using a blowtorch, heat the join until it is hot enough for the solder to melt. When applying solder, it’s important to ensure it runs around the whole fitting. Then, allow the solder to set and wipe away any residue and clean again with wire wool. Step 6: Fit the Valves

Steps on How to Fit a Radiator Thanks all. Our plumbing is such that flow pipes enter radiators from the left hand side. I say this because when Central heating is turned on, the left input / pipe gets hot first. The 10kw Malvern boiler powering the system just manages to serve these additional radiators adequately. It’s good that I haven’t had to increase the boiler size to accommodate the extension. Smith also fashioned a system to feed cold air to the intake behind the front bumper fascia. The two air intake systems are completely separated. What’s even more interesting about the system is that Smith fabricated the chimney so he could install and remove it without having to disconnect any air intake, oil or coolant plumbing. If you look closely, you can get an idea of how it all goes together. Not knowing which radiator you have but in the past have known some designer type radiators where the same radiator can be fitted vertically or horizontally, when horizontally fitted the baffle needs complete removal. Ahlstrom pointed out that getting air to flow from a relatively small opening to the large surface area of an angled radiator depends on smooth flowing surfaces. The ductwork Smith made had some hard angles in it, which were creating vortexes and hampering flow to the top of the radiator. George Smith took a hand sketch from engineer Eric Ahlstrom and revised his cooling system ductwork, and reduce engine temperatures on hot days from 235 to 210 degrees. A skilled fabricator, Smith built an air intake for the radiator, and mounted it at the bottom of the front bumper fascia, above the splitter. With smooth contours in the duct work, the air clings to and is directed by the surfaces rather than tumble off it and create a vortex that hampers good air flow. There’s just as much drag and efficiency to be found in optimizing the exhaust duct of a cooler as there is optimizing the inlet,” Ahlstrom said. “Exactly the same principles apply.” There are so many radiator choices out there from ultra-modern vertical radiators so designer radiators and traditional column radiators that can update your space effectively whilst providing efficient heating. But when it comes to fitting a new radiator, you don’t need the added expense of calling a professional to do it for you! Instead, you can install new radiators by yourself as a fun DIY job for those who like to get things done on their own. Here, we’ve compiled a step by step guide on how to fit a radiator with all the tools you need to get this done on your own. Why Would I Need to Fit a New Radiator?I see your logic Ryluer and I have no way of knowing whether something like that has been built into the rad. Thing is the plug half way along would have to be at the bottom only wouldn't it, which would mean there is a top and a bottom which there there appears not to be. These are very simple rules that anyone can follow,” Ahlstrom said. “I’m really, really happy that you called. I have a problem in my business where people they use a solution of mine, they tend to take credit for it. All I gave George was advice, and he was not only able to follow it, which was very rewarding for me that he had good results, but that he appreciated my time and told you about it.” One supplier told me not to worry, but I can't help feeling this is likely to happen, and forums have some folks suffering this. I'd rather get it right at install stage than wait to see if it's an issue. The small bedroom rads are only ~160mm wide and 1.5M tall, straight through the bottom taps so I think this problem will be likely. I see the more expensive (Myson etc) products do say in datasheets that they have a baffle - some sort of bit of plastic, my cheaper ones have nothing at all and no instructions or guidelines with them. I can't locate details of a picture of any sort of what the baffle might be like. Not at all DA, wondering that myself, but I have no way of knowing, no indication on the rad and the documentation said nothing. I'm expecting a chat with a person from Reina sometime, I'll raise it then.
