About this deal

At only 1 lb. 4 oz., this great pair of sandals felt lightweight and airy, which was particularly appreciated during hot weather. The cushioned midsole, constructed with responsive EVA foam, absorbed impact and provided a supportive base. What I noticed though is that the fit can be a bit narrow, especially in the toe box area. Furthermore, Teva doesn’t do half sizes, so if you have wide feet, you may need to size up a full size. How It Evolved? This is Teva’s in-house sole, and the traction is greatly improved from previous versions of the Hurricane.

The breathable design helped to minimize the accumulation of sweat and reduce the chances of discomfort or odor. On the other hand, the Xero Z-Trail EV focuses on minimalism, featuring a lighter construction and a thin, flexible sole that offers a barefoot-like feel. Thatcher is the founder of Teva (Hebrew for "nature"), the Velcro-strapped sport sandal that changed the way outdoor enthusiasts traversed rivers and mountains and has become a beloved icon in the outdoor community. Teva’s design is unique, and remains almost unchanged from the original hiking sandal. There are enough adjustments to really dial in fit. While in terms of design, both shoes share a similar aesthetic, with the iconic Teva style and recognizable strap design, the new version has a redesigned footbed that comes with superior padding for walking or trekking. These sandals are particularly suited for day hiking, water activities like kayaking, and adventures in wet environments. With their reliable waterproofing capabilities, they keep your feet dry and comfortable even when traversing streams, puddles, or a wet trail. Not a whole lot to say here, the fit was spot on! I’m not sure why these aren’t offered in half sizes, so I imagine that they won’t grant the perfect fit to everybody, but they sure did for me! Grievances The Teva products generally run true to size. The shoe sizing chart provided by the manufacturer was reliable, and the sandals fit me well based on my usual shoe size.

While it remained functional during my testing, repeated adjustments and exposure to dirt and debris might affect its longevity. 4. Breathability However, the Teva Hurricane XLT had a slightly sturdier construction overall. While the Teva Hurricane XLT 2 is still sturdy, some users might prefer the older version’s robustness for a more demanding trail. How Does it Compare with Other Products? Teva Terra Fi 5 Universal The Hurricane XLT 2 range is Teva’s latest addition to their popular range of sandals. It’s a model that’s specifically tailored towards outdoor adventuring, with a sole that’s shaped for the trail to bring plenty of cushioning and grip. Design See our article for more information on hiking in Teva Sandals. Where Teva Hurricane XLT2 Falls Short in Performance? One aspect worth noting, though, is that the Velcro closure system on the straps may show signs of wear over time. Moreover, the secure stitching and reinforced toe area provided additional protection against potential damage. Despite encountering rough terrain and sharp objects, the Teva Hurricane XLT2 maintained its structural integrity. A decent number of sizes, but no half sizes. While this is common for some sandals, it’s unfortunate for those who are between a size. The Teva Hurricane XLT 2 sandal brings several improvements while maintaining some of the qualities that made its predecessor popular. Teva also offers the Hurricane XLT 2 Cross Strap, which has the connector strap going across the foot, rather than to the side. This is a personal preference, and we found the cross strap provided a bit more support during upward movement. Teva also offers this model in many brand collaborations, like Snow Peak, but the sandal remains the same. Overall we like the standard Teva Hurricane XLT 2 model the best, or the Cross Strap if you need that support.

The Teva Hurricane XLT 2 sandal didn’t hinder my movements or make me feel fatigued, allowing me to enjoy my summer adventures without any unnecessary burden. The new model is even more comfortable than its predecessor, with a cushioned footbed that is designed to prevent hot spots and soft straps for those fearing blisters.

The classic Teva has been around for long enough to know that they got something right with their three-strap design. Love it or hate it, you can't deny the ubiquity of a Teva. The Hurricane XLT 2 builds upon the original style with some material selections that make for a better ride. While it doesn't offer quite the same performance as some high-end models, the XLT 2 is a very capable and resilient sandal with a straightforward design. Furthermore, being the most affordable sandal in this review, it's the clear choice for our Best Buy Award. Compared to the Teva Hurricane XLT2 sandal, the Cairn Adventure sandal offers a more minimalist feel and is lighter in weight. I also found the soles of the Hurricane XLT 2 to be comfortable and capable. While I wouldn’t use this sandal for trekking or heavy duty hiking, I found it was supportive when shouldering a light load and moving through easy-to-moderate terrain. The insole was comfortable enough and the outsole gripped the ground reassuringly. I had a few moments of hesitation around camp while downclimbing some boulders to find the perfect spot for lunch, but traction was excellent and the three-point strap system kept me secure. Comfort 4 Stars
