And whether they came home again or not, they would belong neither here, nor there, for they would have lived on two continents and sampled two different ways of life.” The story gives a very good insight into what life was like in 1960's Sydney...especially for women and especially for women in the workforce, but more particularly the life and pulse of the people in and the place known (then and now) as Kings Cross. I cannot do this book any justice without getting into detail or botching my words. There is always the synopsis but that too cannot make you feel the story as deep as when you are in it.
