It’s been a while since I’ve read a book that inspired me to stay up later than intended to read just one more chapter; certainly one of my favorite reading discoveries this year. About her 2018 book It's Not Supposed to Be This Way, Publishers Weekly noted "[h]er transparency, wit, and spiritual insight make this skillfully crafted volume feel like time spent in honest conversation with a trusted friend". [16] [22] In between the house talk and the ghost talk there were allusions to their Irish home and it was clear that their roots and their history were important to them. TerKeurst, Lysa (2018). Uninvited - Living Loved When You Feel Less Than, Left Out

Too much "romantic" spiritual language. This is a personal pet peeve, but I get tired of the romantic analogies of our relationship with Jesus. Jesus is our God, not our boyfriend. To reduce our speech about him to romantic terms takes away some of the power of the fact that we are loved and valued by the Creator of the Universe. This book was even better than I had hoped. Beautifully written, flowing story that builds and builds to a terrific climax. I loved it. This is a really wonderful, psychological-type ghost story. They find the owner, an elderly man with a granddaughter just out of boarding school. He seems reluctant to sell the house, and reluctant to explain why, but Roddy is persuasive. Bitterness, resentment, and anger have no place in a heart as beautiful as yours. #UninvitedBook @LysaTerKeurst A review for her 2014 book The Best Yes: Making Wise Decisions in the Midst of Endless Demands reads, "TerKeurst's often self-deprecating humor and ability to be vulnerable, combined with insightful Bible references, make this a book women can relate to in a hundred little ways each day". [19]While working as a journalist with the League of Nations in the 1930s she acquired a considerable affinity with the plight of pre-war Czechoslovakia. Consequently she differed with official Irish government policy on the threat of Nazism, Irish neutrality during World War II, compulsory Irish language teaching in schools, and deplored what she saw as the reduced status of women in the 1937 Constitution of Ireland. The mind feasts on what it focuses on. What consumes my thinking will be the making or the breaking of my identity.” In 2002, producers Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald produced the hit horror film The Ring, a remake of the Japanese film Ring. They subsequently produced the film's successful sequel The Ring Two in 2005. Since first starting this new cycle of Asian horror film adaptations, Parkes and MacDonald searched for a project they felt was as ingeniously conceived and executed as The Ring and finally found it when producer Roy Lee brought the Korean film A Tale of Two Sisters to their attention. For instance, she has a chapter about abundance and scarcity - I've heard her speak on this before, and it is an interesting psychological concept, but she explained it poorly and over-spiritualized it. She included a quote that referenced the story of Joseph and the famine in the Bible - and the quote implied that there was abundance in all the world before this (not true - there were at least a couple famines before Joseph - Genesis 26:1), and then blamed all the scarcity in the land on Pharaoh, which isn't an accurate representation of what happened at all. Jesus doesn’t participate in the rat race. He’s into the slower rhythms of life, like abiding, delighting, and dwelling—all words that require us to trust Him with our place and our pace. Words used to describe us being with Him.” TerKeurst, Lysa (2017). What happens when women say yes to God. Lysa TerKeurst. Eugene, Or.: Harvest House Publishers. ISBN 978-0-7369-1922-7. First of all, it allowed me to give you a taste of what you can expect from "The Uninvited" without spoiling any plot. If you liked hearing about my own ghost, then this book is definitely for you. It is the template for grounded, slow-burn haunted house stories. They had thought things through; they knew that their circumstances were likely to change, that they wouldn't always want to share a home, and they had made provision for that. I had an idea of how the mystery would pay out at an early stage, but that didn't spoil the story. It was an utterly believable human tragedy, and I could understood how and why it had happened. And I was caught up with Roddy and Pamela as they struggled to work out what had happened and what they could, what they should, do. Unglued: Making Wise Choices in the Midst of Raw Emotions.
