Tulipahan tämäkin kulttiklassikko luettua vihdoinkin! Lapsenahan en tätä koskaan lukenut, enkä siis traumatisoitunut, kuten moni muu lapsi. Monet ovat kertoneet kirjan juttujen pelottaneen heitä lapsena, mutta näin aikuisena lukiessa kaikki kirjan ”kauheudet” ovat lähinnä keskinkertaista höttöä. Hyvä muistutus siitä, miten eri tavalla lapset ja aikuiset voivat lukea samoja asioita ja käsittää pelon aiheita. Nyt vuosikymmeniä myöhemmin päätin lukaista uusintapainoksen. Kirjaston lastenosastolle siis. Käsikirjaa oli rivissä n. 5 kappaletta, eli mikään käsistä revittävä superhitti tämä ei taida nykylapsille olla. Kirja on kiinnostava ja siinä olevat kuvat todella hienoja - ja no, aika pelottaviakin. Ja pelottavan kuumottavia ovat myös kirjan tarinat. En kyllä yhtään ihmettele, miksi lapsia on pelottanut. They are beautifully written, using a simple and direct style which avoids ever being patronising or particularly childish.
