Well, up to a point. There are definite positives to the native 4K pictures the A6G is capable of delivering, and it’s not the worst upscaler of Full HD content you ever saw either. It’s even decently rapid as a gaming monitor. As an upscaler, too, the Hisense A6G has its limits. It’s able to do pretty decent work with 1080p Full HD content – yes, those impressive detail levels fall away a little, and edges can become slightly restless, but in overall terms the Hisense fills its enormous pixel-count skillfully. But step down from there to some DVD-stored content, say, or – even worse – some daytime TV broadcasts, and the A6G gives up the ghost somewhat. Knowing and working within its limitations also helps the 43A6GTUK avoid sounding too harsh through the treble region during densely mixed scenes, and it even delivers a mild Dolby Atmos benefit in the shape of a respectable amount of extra ‘throw’ to the left and right of the screen when an Atmos source is detected.

Hisense is carving quite a niche for itself with well-specified yet affordable 4K HDR TVs. The A6G, reviewed here, may be unquestionably budget but it’s not boring. Saving the day, however, are rich hues and stunning fine detail. When our dysfunctional crew lands at the UTS Commercial District, this neon city-space-turned-nightclub makes even Blade Runner look staid, despite the absence of any wide colour boost. Oh, usually a flashing red light it's telling us that there is a fault present, usually it's with the power supply or the PCB Board. There’s more colour trouble, too, in the shape of striping/banding noise in areas of HDR imagery that should contain subtle colour blends. The trim depth of most of its rear and its angled bottom edge are about as close to style as the 43A6GTUK gets. And in the latter’s case, any momentary ‘ooh’ it might inspire is immediately snuffed out by the presence below of a pair of feet that look a little cheap by modern standards.
