Immediately, within the first few lines I was thrown into the deep end and the anxiety didn't give way until the very end. Andrea, has so cleverly managed the tension in a way so that it went from a slow simmer which crept it's way into my chest, to that bubbling, bursting sensation where I realised I'd been holding my breath and it was time to breathe. As the police investigate Milo’s disappearance, it’s suspected that his friend’s nanny has taken him. Marissa clings to the hope that she is keeping him safe and looking after him, but things soon begin to take a dark turn. It isn’t clear what the kidnapper’s motive is, and they soon find out that she knows dangerous people. This then begins to suggest that there could be a much more sinister motive. Marissa’s fear comes through very strongly, and I thought that Andrea Mara wrote this very well. This book is excellent. Pacy and clever and intriguing. All Her Fault is Andrea Mara’s UK debut and, although her books are very much based in an Irish setting, the subject matter could be anywhere. Losing a child in a supermarket or at a playground is a very traumatic event in any parent’s life, but for your child to be stolen, to go missing, is just incomprehensible. Marissa’s descent into complete disarray is wonderfully captured by Andrea Mara. Her life spirals totally out of her control as the truth slowly reveals itself and we witness her fall from grace within the community. Where once she was the popular one, now it’s a question of ‘How could she? What was she thinking?’ Out of the woodwork, the trolls throw out comments about the working mother and about trusting children with strangers.
