Double Cross (novel) - Wikipedia

Three weeks after their first meeting, Czerniawski confessed that he was a spy and asked Mathilde to help him realize his “vision” of a multicelled intelligence network. She said he could count on her; together they would “do great things.” The theatricality of the moment was compounded by Czerniawski’s announcement that he had already selected a code name for his new accomplice: she would be “La Chatte,” the She-Cat, because “you walk so quietly, in your soft shoes, like a cat.” She raised the slim fingers of one hand in a claw: “And I can scratch as well if I wish.” Perhaps it was a warning. I totally agree I also love Morgan freeman but thought that he was miscast for the part of Alex and I thought I was alone in thinking that pleased someone else thought so too Reply With this narrative Mr. Macintyre once again proves he is a master of telling the stories of British Intelligence. This book is more than the story of Operation Fortitude, the Allies attempt to convince the Germans that the invasion of France was going to be somewhere other than Normandy. The author tells the story of how British Intelligence - MI 6 completely penetrated the German spy network in Great Britain and used that control to tell the Germans exactly what the Allies wanted them to hear and to a great extent what the Germans themselves wanted to believe. According to the author, every agent Germany attempted to insert into Great Britain was captured. Most were imprisoned, a few executed and some became double agents Following a July 1940 conference in Kiel, the Abwehr (German intelligence) began an espionage campaign against Britain involving intelligence gathering and sabotage. Spies were sent over from Europe in various ways; some parachuted or were delivered by submarine. Others entered the country on false passports or posing as refugees. [2] Public perception in Britain was that the country was full of well-trained German spies, who were deeply integrated into society. There was widespread "spy-mania", as Churchill put it. The truth was that between September and November 1940 fewer than 25 agents arrived in the country; mostly of Eastern European extraction, they were badly trained and poorly motivated. [2] Sam Giancana was christened Mono "Jimmy" Salvatore Giancana but was called Mooney or Sam by friends. This is the non-fiction account told by his brother and nephew who was his Godson and namesake.spooks), MI-5, A] complex, absorbing final installment in his trilogy about World War II espionage….Macintyre is a master storyteller. Employing a wry wit and a keen eye for detail, he delivers an ultimately winning tale fraught with European intrigue and subtle wartime heroics. New York Post, Required Reading wrote: There are 5 spies in particular on which this book focuses: Tricycle, Garbo, Treasure, Brutus, and Bronx. Other such as Artist, Gelatine, Freak, and Giraffe are mentioned as well. I also enjoyed the little side stories of other spy's escapades, such as the wretched actor who made a magnificent double for Monty, the pigeon fanatic's efforts to infest German carrier pigeons with traitor pigeons, and an frustrated but nevertheless blustering Patton marching around touting his command of military units that did not exist. One slip, just one slip, one betrayal, one triple agent, could have blown the whole works, and perhaps cost the lives of tens of thousands more. And it nearly happened when the British spy handlers miscalculated the love of a the spy called Treasure for her little dog, and the bitterness she harbored when they broke their word to her regarding her beloved Frisson. The author also looks at the American attempts to get into the intel game how it almost cost MI 6 one of their better agents. It seems that in the attempt to be good partners, MI 6 let the FBI/OSS run one the agents who had moved to the US. The attempt failed because Herbert Hoover, the head of the FBI, did not believe in or trust double agents and wouldn’t allow the agent to be given anything at all believable or of any use to the Germans. After about six months the agent reverted to British control and according to the author left a bad taste all around and a rather large hotel bill for the Americans to pay. John Kennedy, once in office, was supposed to help Sam Giancana, Carlos Marcelo and Santo Trafficante keep carrying out their criminal activities, however, once elected, he double crossed them and placed his brother as Attorney General, who went after all of them and Jimmy Hoffa with an undisguised zeal.

Double Cross: The Explosive Inside Story of the Mobster Who

Meanwhile, Jezzie Flanagan has risen through the ranks to become the Secret Service’s first-ever female supervisor. The chemistry between Alex and Jezzie is palpable, and the two may not be able to stop themselves from giving in to an affair of passion despite the risks. What! No one could have played Alex Cross that Morgan Freeman – You want to talk about disappointment was choosing Tyler Perry – BIG DISAPPOINTMENT! Reply I completely agree with the Morgan Freeman comment along side your Denzel Washington views. As I have read many Alex Cross books and have always pictured Tyler Perry as a good leading role too. I many be alone with this idea but I feel as though he would make a great Alex Cross. Reply Witt, Carolinda (November 2017). Double Agent Celery. Barnsley, UK: Pen & Sword Books. The elaborate plans of the British with the help of their double agents from several countries made possible the D Day landings in Normandy in World War II, duped the Germans into sending their main armies to other venues and thus the Allies won the war. In addition to the double agents, the author does look at some of the other methods the Allies used to reinforce what they where sending their German controllers. This includes the famous rubber vehicles and planes, false radio traffic, using General Patton as a decoy etc. The man’s name is Gary Soneji, and his main goal is to commit the biggest crime that the century has ever seen. Main character Alex Cross, a homicide detective, is the only one with the experience and the smarts to take this villain on. He may be the only one that has what it takes to take Gary down before he pulls off his master plan.

You only need to look at Mexico and realize that collaboration definitely exists there and America is no exception. I found Morgan Freeman to be an excellent Alex Cross. I saw the move when first released. No way should Tyler Perry played him. Reply The book was adapted into a film starring Morgan Freeman in 2001.
