I loved this Frankies style and sense of humour defiant comes through, I’m really impressed with this as a debut novel , it’s really good, keeps you on the edge of your seat and I loved the ending, didn’t see it coming at all, so lovely, this is hilarious, full of great characters and emotional, if you like Frankie you will love this book. , I know I did Felix McAveety – a Glaswegian in his 30s and former BBC Scotland employee. He is addicted to drugs and alcohol, particularly Valium. Rachael O'Connor – a delusional stalker who formerly pursued Felix and is currently obsessed with a man named Greg. In 2014, Frankie Boyle starred in the short comedy film Gasping for BBC Scotland, written by Greg Hemphill. The title refers to an expression in Scottish English, communicative of an irresistible compulsion to do something, such as smoke a cigarette; or, as here, to drink alcohol. The short feature is an at-times-farcical but generally deadpan treatment of a man's attempted recovery from alcoholism.

Throw in a very poignant and touching ending and you will have a read like no other that will bring out all the emotions in you. There are clear semi-autobiographical elements to this and it even gets a little meta at times. Immensely funny people tend to be immensely intelligent and Boyle is no exception, yes there are times when scenarios can have a slightly staged feel and some of his views feel almost crowbarred in, but then that’s what’s most writers do. And the results are more than worthwhile.Louise Griffin (31 July 2022). "Frankie Boyle hits out at 'garbled nonsense' after claims he made Holly Willoughby rape joke". Metro. Without spoiling too much, in the final few chapters of MEANTIME, Frankie writes about grief and regret in a way that absolutely crushed me. I had tears in my eyes on more than a few occasions. To have the ability to convey feelings the way he did either suggests maybe his own past trauma or an incredibly special talent to relate to that level of loss on that deep of a level. Boyle discussed the material onstage at a charity gig some months later, saying that the joke was intended to highlight how Price exploited her son, and that he felt the two aspects of Price's media profile, "her disabled son and her sexuality", did not belong together. He rejected comments that the joke may have led to playground bullying, saying that "I find it hard to believe there are kids at that school who would like to slag Harvey, but can't think of an angle." [68] Allegations of racism and consequent libel action [ edit ] The comedian Frankie Boyle is the latest in a rash of television personalities trying their hand at crime fiction; but, as you might expect from somebody who titled one of his tours I Would Happily Punch Every One of You in the Face, Boyle is not joining his fellow celebs at the cosy end of the crime spectrum.
