Description

If we think about how the UK government is formed, it becomes apparent why each party competes so vigorously to gain seats in the House of Commons. Political socialization: The term refers to the process of how people acquire their political values. The Welsh Government is the devolved governance of Wales. Similar to UK Government, members of the Welsh Government come from Senedd Cymru.

A coalition government is formed when more than one political party come together to govern. This is usually because of a hung parliament, when no party has won enough seats to in an election to govern on their own. Single-member district electoral system:An electoral system in which the person who wins the most votes in a district is elected to office. Understand voting behavior. Knowing why people vote the way they do can make your own vote more effective. Political parties' policies are the ideas they would like to pass into legislation after winning an election and forming a government.

When will we find out the result?

Almost without exception, those on the left support gay marriage, and other gay rights issues like adoption rights and non-discrimination at work or in business. Those who would typically identify as being on the right tend to live in rural areas and suburbs, especially in the south, Midwest, and extreme rural west. Meanwhile, those on the left tend to inhabit medium and large cities, and live along either the east or west coast. Polls are used to find out what the views of the public are. Companies specialising in opinion polls will create a questionnaire asking people a series of questions for them to answer. They will then collate the results to create an overview of public opinion. Coalitions are not common to Westminster politics as one party is likely to win a majority of seats under the first past the post system. But between 2010 and 2015 the UK was governed by a coalition between the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats. MPs, elected by UK citizens, sit in the House of Commons. The benches in the House of Commons are green.

We have our own Senedd in Wales - Senedd Cymru - where 60 Members of the Senedd (MS) meet to debate. What both Senedd Cymru and the UK Parliament have in common is that they have the power to make laws. Two-party system: A political system in which only two parties have a realistic chance of winning political office. This is the geographical area that a Member of Parliament represents. On average, a Welsh Member of Parliament represents 56,000 people in Westminster. Balance of power: A theory that stipulates that as long as all great powers are similar in size and power, the world will be in balance and peace will result. The judicial branch is made up of American courts, the most powerful being the Supreme Court. For court cases that aren’t quite solved through lower courts, eventually they can make their way up to the Supreme Court where the judges, which are called justices, rule on the dispute. Many cases that make their way to the Supreme Court aren’t answered easily by a simple glance at the Constitution, so justices must read between the lines and make educated guesses on how the situation should be handled. Justices are nominated by the president and confirmed by Congress, and if they’re confirmed to the Supreme Court, they serve lifelong terms. The justices use the Constitution as their Bible for interpreting whether or not laws and actions are allowable. David Easton, 1917–2014: Easton not only created the school of postbehavioralism but also gave the world the input/output model to explain policy making.
