Description

Weight differences only start appearing when you compare the Elite EXP with the non-expandable Pro 32 and 50. Just make sure you don’t drop them too often or drag them along a hard floor (this can scratch your floor). You’ll notice that some models in the chart below have different “stages” (i.e. Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3). What this means is that you can expand the weight capacity of the base dumbbell set (i.e. the Stage 1 set) with a Stage 2 expansion kit and then a Stage 3 expansion kit.

Both dumbbells are padded for comfort, and most users comment that they will slightly adjust their arms during workouts to accommodate for the size. I am highly satisfied with this product. I recommend this to anyone who is a beginner to the intermediate lifter.” ( 13 ) In addition to reviewing gym equipment, I also own a couple other businesses, have three kids, a wife, and many other responsibilities. Training is a supplement to everything else in my life and therefore forces me to value each second I spend in the gym. It has an open handle / “wedge” design. This gives your wrist and forearm more range of motion. And it makes it more comfortable if your forearms is up against the side of the handle since you don’t have the plastic edge digging in. But who knows, maybe they add the Stage 4 for us in the future. At least for me, though, I’m still good with 90 lbs for my DB work. I save the heavy stuff for barbells 😀Side Rails: The colour bands on the rails correspond with the weight chart on the handle to show what will be selected. Otherwise, the Sport Series and Pro Series function similarly and look similar as well (darker look, arched plate shape). Sport EXP Increments achieved: 2.5 (adder weight), 5, 7.5, 10, 15, 17.5, 20, 25, 27.5, 30, 35, 37.5, 40, 45, 47.5, 50, 55, 57.5, 60, 65, 67.5, 70, 75, 77.5, 80, 85, 87.5 and 90 lbs per hand The extender options are absolutely worth it for those who lift heavier and need more weight; the non-expandable options are a great value for people who don’t need lots of weight. Inspect the shipment to make sure that the number of pieces indicated on the receiving paperwork matches up with what you are actually receiving.

Elite USA 90 EXP Adjustable Dumbbells - PowerBlock

That makes sense, thank you. I’m looking at ROGUE and they have both stage 2 ELITE and SPORT EXP for same price. I prefer to have an open handle. The Sport Series, like the Pro Series, has 3 different dumbbell models in its lineup, including one expandable model and two non-expandable models:

Are the PowerBlock Adjustable Dumbbells Worth It?

They both replace up to 28 pairs of dumbbells when fully expanded and adjust in 2.5lb/5lb increments using the chrome adder weights. In comparison, all Sports (including the 24, 50, and EXP) use a numerical coding system. Each number represents the actual increment. Each model has its own positives and negatives, described below, which makes choosing between the two such a difficult decision. Only the Elite USA and a couple of the Commercial Pro sets (i.e. Commercial Pro 90 and 50) have a straight handle.

With so many models, each having its own unique set of features, capabilities and limitations, it takes some effort to familiarize yourself with not only the major distinctions between models but also their more subtle differences. Important update: the Pro doesn’t have a handle guard. In comparison, the Elite has two rails on either side restricting the handle cavity space. If you’re clenched fist is bigger than 5″, then the Pro or Sport is the better option! Material: The Stage 1 set (5-50 lbs) and Stage 2 set (5-70 lbs) can of course be upgraded later to get the full 90 lb capacity by getting the Stage 2 expansion kit (50-70 lbs) and Stage 3 expansion kit (70-90 lbs) separately. It’s difficult for me to choose a clear-cut winner between the Elite 90 and the Sports EXP Stage 3. It’s pretty much a tie…

Great For

In comparison, the paintwork on the Elites/Sports can chip if they’re abused, can scratch your tiled floor, and can be quite loud when they hit the floor.

PowerBlock Elite 90 EXP Adjustable Dumbbells [Stage 1]

There are two swappable pairs of handles (5 lbs & 10 lbs) and no adder weights. Changing the weight is even faster on this set because you don’t have to take the time to insert or remove the adder weights. You change the selector pin setting and/or swap the handles. I’ve also heard that the urethane used on the Pro EXP’s may be better than what was used on the U90s (e.g. it might be overall more durable and/or be better able to withstand hot/cold temps) — But don’t quote me on that, as I haven’t confirmed it.

But if you’re still not 100% sure about what’s the best adjustable dumbbell set for you, read on. I’ll give you a few different use cases where I believe certain models are the right choice. The closed handle design is a bit restrictive. There are certain exercises that are more difficult to do, like overhead tricep extensions. Also, performing certain exercises with single dumbells are challenging.
