Boxers need to be light on their feet in the ring which is why boxing shoes are usually built lighter than your standard athletic shoes. Lightweight materials can vary, but good options are made out of lightweight leather or suede. And they are narrow, especially the toes. I already have narrow feet but damn, these things don’t give me a lot of breathing room. Designed for professional use and longevity, the Rival RSX-Guerrero Deluxe is available in a captivating gold hue. Regardless of your skill level, these boots guarantee the highest quality and performance. Embrace excellence in every step and make these boxing boots an integral part of your journey to success. Adidas are one of the handful of boxing brands that make very good quality shoes for boxing. The adidas Box Hog 2 have been around for some time and are still just as popular as when they were first launched. This is a matter of personal preference. Some of you with high arches may prefer more of a contoured or cushioned-sole so you foot feels wrapped in a glove and maybe even a little bit elevated off the ground. And those of you with low arches or flatter feet may prefer a more “naked” flat shoe where your feet feel like they’re standing right on the ground. Some of you may also feel that well-cushioned insoles seem more expensive and that naked “flat” shoes feel more cheap. You COULD also take a “flat shoe” and switch out the insoles. This is what my brother did when the shoes he wanted didn’t have enough arch-support or cushion for him.

One key difference you’ll see is that boxing boots rise higher up on the foot and ankle. High-top boxing boots offer support to your ankle and shins when you are pivoting, making them ideal for manoeuvres. You’ll be able to reduce the risk of injury with the right boots, and with so many high-quality brands to choose from, you are spoilt for choice. Excellent quality, lightweight, used by good fighters. Also has a zipper on the side for convenience. I do think the zipper is genius as having to lace-up high-top shoes every day can get pretty freaken annoying. 4. LUXURY brands – Winning, Di Nardo, Mizuno The mid tops will usually rest two or three inches above your ankles depending upon the model and usually are the most popular since they offer a bit more mobility than the high tops but more support than the low top.

One of the most important tasks of a boxing shoe is to protect your ankles. As you already know, ankle injuries are common in sports where you’re jumping around, changing angles often, and constantly putting force on your ankles from all directions. Boxing can definitely put force on your ankles and knees depending on your fighting style. Boxing shoes are one of the most important and most personal pieces of boxing equipment. Probably the second most critical piece of gear after your boxing gloves. Boxing shoes help you move with absolute control, giving you explosive footwork as well as anchored stops. These are the 2nd tier brands for boxing shoes on the market. They are probably just as high quality and fancily-designed as Nike but not as popular. Is it due to just marketing and brand recognition/trust? Or is it something else? Adidas Box Hog 2 is another great, affordable option. These boots deliver agile performance with a sturdy single-layer open mesh upper construction for superior climate control.

Another stylish boxing shoe from Rival. Nice ankle support, not so much space around here like the Nike HyperKO’s and also a flatter shoe (less insole cushioning). The shoe overall does feel like a cheaper shoe than the Nike HyperKO’s but still decent enough quality and some people might prefer it over the Nike HyperKO’s. My brother chose this shoe over the Nike HyperKO because they had more ankle support.

As mentioned earlier the level of support your shoes provide is up to you and down to personal preference. Material The sole is an important part of the boxing shoe, they provide the grip that is needed to keep you on your feet but at the same time provide just enough traction to be able to pivot or move around the ring without slipping.

Got myself a pair of Adidas Ring Wizard because of the brand (implying quality) and looks. Even though it was mid to high top, the cuff provided little to no support. Also, I found the sole too tapered, making it easy to roll my ankles, although it was light and thin and gave me good movement. I have the Rival RSX One Classic high tops (I’m 5’4, 125lbs, thin calves, narrow feet with a normal arch). The EVA midsole is a testament to Reebok’s commitment to performance. It’s lightweight yet exceptionally durable, offering the ideal cushioning for your feet without adding any unnecessary bulk. There are a few extra things to consider. First off, low-tops come in varying ranges of “low”. Some are below the ankle, some are right on the ankle, and some are even above the ankle. While that may or may not matter in terms of ankle support, they do feel very different. So even if you want low tops, I recommend you try out the different ranges of low-tops if you want to be a perfectionist.

I like them, so far. I don’t do much in the ring anymore, but I use these on the rubber gym mats and they’re definitely an improvement over straight-up wrestling shoes in the pivoting dpeartment, and a BIG improvement over generic sneakers, which I find to be clunky and awkward. In addition to the ankle ankle support that a good quality pair of boots offers and the fact that they help to improve footwork and increase power transference, owning a good pair of boxing shoes for training is a necessity for safety reasons. In case you were looking for the older (yet also popular) Adidas boxing shoes, this model was very popular. Some people even liked these more than the seen-everywhere Nike Machomai boxing shoes. I’m not sure but it seems this model is being updated as well. I listed Box Hog version “2” and “3” above for you. Can I use the boxing shoes also for running ? Some people say that the boxing shoes are only great to use in the boxing gym to do the other stuff except running, such as (Skipping rope, Shadow Boxing, Bagwork, etc.) These companies, in my opinion, are the HELL-NO brands. I will never buy or use them. I hear of too many complaints with their quality. I will have to admit that I haven’t used any of them for extended periods of time. (Based on the initial fitting, I didn’t want to.) Not surprisingly, I don’t see these brands as much in the gym (except for little kids). I would say they are completely inferior in quality, comfort, styling, and their cheaper price often reflects that. I think the biggest problem with them is that they’re not true shoe brands (and not quality boxing brands either, IMO). They don’t have the experience or know-how to make comfortable shoes. At best, they have cool designs and that’s it.

Top Boxing Shoe Brands

Engineered with a mid-top design, these boots offer exceptional ankle support and stability, giving you the edge during training and fights. The carbon fibre textured heel cap not only provides added support but also extends the boot’s lifespan. The enhanced inner fitting ensures maximum comfort, and the breathable mesh panels on each side offer ventilation, preventing discomfort even during intense sessions. Having too much support and by this I mean material on your boots that isn’t really needed and is just there for the aesthetics of the boots can add unwanted weight to your shoes. This added weight can affect your movement so try to go for a lighter pair unless of course you prefer a heavier boxing shoe as some do. Comfort The amount of support your choice of boxing shoe provides is down to you. The three types of boxing shoes, low, mid and high top all offer different levels of ankle support. In terms of support the ankle straps that they have work very effectively and don’t have a negative impact on comfort. Another positive is the use of a single layer lightweight mesh upper, this allows your feet to breathe and stay cool. This works by venting warm out and cool air in to the boots when your feet are moving around.
