Really underrated gem too. I personally weren't going to pay 150 for a first press. And I have to say, Music On Vinyl has done it again. The album was well received and entered the UK Album Charts at #2 and received a Platinum status. It featured three popular singles: “Love Is The Law”, “Blinded By The Sun” and “Love Me And Leave Me”. The latter was Liam Gallagher's first song writing credit. Their success resulted in support slots with The Rolling Stones, U2 and Oasis. Unfortunately, The Seahorses aborded the recordings of their follow-up album to split up due to musical differences. love is the law | full Official Chart History | Official Charts Company". www.officialcharts.com . In the summer of 1996, Squire rented a cottage in Coniston, Cumbria to write and rehearse with Helme and Fletcher. Several drummers were auditioned before finally recruiting Andy Watts, who had previously gigged with Fletcher and also knew Helme. [5] Do It Yourself is the only album by the Seahorses, the band formed by John Squire, formerly guitarist in the Stone Roses. The album's cover features a photograph of Squire's 1996 sculpture in the shape of globe made of puzzle pieces and also named Do It Yourself. I have been looking for this album for a long-time. Such an amazing album, John Squire's guitar work is unmatched.

Chris Helme". Cultfound.org. Archived from the original on 5 October 2013 . Retrieved 23 April 2014. The band went on to play support slots with The Rolling Stones, U2, and Oasis. [11] In 1998, the band began work on a follow-up album with another new drummer, Mark Heaney. They previewed several new songs during secret fan club gigs and festival appearances, including "City in the Sky", "700 Horses", "Tombraid" and two Helme compositions "Won't Let You Fall" and "Moth". The band released their debut album Do It Yourself in 1997, and began work on a follow-up before splitting up due to musical differences, during recording sessions in January 1999. An underrated gem from the height of Britpop saw a powerhouse of the Stone Roses team up with a busker off the streets to produce this fine little album. They then promptly split up, leaving us with just the one LP. Give it a go, it's very lovely.

After John Squire left The Stone Roses, he formed The Seahorses in 1996 together with Stuart Fletcher, Chris Helme and Andy Watts. The year after they released their debut album Do It Yourself, which was produced by Tony Visconti. Visconti had his first hit with T. Rex' “Ride A White Swan” and was involved in many David Bowie productions. Their success resulted in support slots with The Rolling Stones, U2 and Oasis. Unfortunately, The Seahorses aborded the recordings of their follow-up album to split up due to musical differences. After John Squire left The Stone Roses, he formed The Seahorses in 1996 together with Stuart Fletcher, Chris Helme and Andy Watts. Following the demise of the Seahorses, Squire continued work with drummer Mark Heaney on a new project called John Squire's Skunkworks which also featured vocalist Duncan Baxter plus ex- Verve members Simon Jones and Simon Tong. However, the project collapsed and the other band members continued and released material as The Shining. [20] He later released two solo albums and toured both, before announcing he was quitting music to concentrate on his art. Squire later recanted and rejoined The Stone Roses in 2011. John Squire, ComposerLyricist - Tony Visconti, Producer - Liam Gallagher, ComposerLyricist - The Seahorses, MainArtistSquire later commented on his reasons for ending the band that "I thought 'This sounds shit, we don't deserve to be in this place.' The band sounded complacent. I don't suppose it was anyone's fault. Maybe it got far too much attention for very little effort in the early stages, because of what I'd done in the past." [18] He also added that the "band wasn't working out cos the singer, Chris, wanted to pursue a solo career in tandem, there was no way that that was going to work for me". [19] Post-breakup [ edit ]
