The Strange Library by Murakami Haruki Book Review: The Strange Library by Murakami Haruki

In Camera Lucida Roland Barthes discovers his mother not in pictures of her as an adult, but in a photograph taken of her when she was a child. Does the narrator of The Strange Library find his mother in the ghostly girl? Then, there is the leitmotif of stolen time. Speaking again of the girl, the narrator tells us that “she seemed exhausted. She had lost her color and had grown transparent, so that I could see the wall behind her.”In February 2005 an illustrated edition of The Strange Library appeared in Japanese (図書館奇譚 toshokankitan, published by Kodansha). This was then republished in January 2008 as a Kodansha Bunko edition. The illustrations are by Maki Sasaki. [5] The Strange Library (2014 editions) [ edit ] the inexplicable and absurd together with their resultant dilemmas: "How could I escape?", "How much of what I remember really happened?", "Could I have been dreaming?", is it not "awfully cruel" for the old man to go to such lengths?; I am not the person to ask. I have not read any of Murakami's books myself. I have to maintain a professional distance." He finds an old man there, and admits he's looking for some information about Ottoman tax collection -- it had popped into his head on his way home from school: A] charming, surreal story. . . . Cleverly designed and illustrated by Chip Kidd. . . . Whether he is writing for adults or children, [Murakami] remains a suspenseful and fantastical storyteller." -- The Washington Post

Moriko lead me out of the laboratory and the doctors both gave me a bow. I returned a bow to them making sure it was as least as low as theirs. I remember that from something I have read. At the reception Moriko handed my some gift vouchers for Kinokuniya and thanked me again. She then called the elevator for me and wished me goodbye.
