About this deal

I take my golf game incredibly seriously, so I like to know that the equipment I’m using won’t fail me when it matters most. I also like how you can use both touch screens and buttons to toggle through screens, which makes it easy to find what I’m looking for even if I have a hard time seeing things on the small display. Preloaded with 40,000 courses worldwide with free updates: Preloaded with 40,000 courses in over 170 countries with free wireless course updates via Bluetooth with the smartphone app. Please access the Main Menu by pushing the "Menu" button on the unit, or by touching the "Main Menu" selection on the "Locating Satellites" screen. While on the play mode, touch the yardage number (located on the top right corner of the screen) to activate the green view mode.

The distance layups are shown as 100, 150, 200 yards or meters from hole, following the current unit setting (refer to section 3.6). Up to 13 hours of battery life in Golf Mode: Lasts for up to 3 rounds of golf- rechargeable via USB. View the dismissed notifications from your smartphone which is connected to the WTX. When you run the Notifier, a list of notifications dismissed earlier will be shown on the screen. Tap the specific notification in the list to view its detail, and it will automatically be removed from the list.I really liked that this watch allowed me to compare my averages and stats with those of my friends, which made for some interesting post-round conversations.

Aside from doing a course update, it also allows you to automatically update the score of your rounds. However, we come to the next issue: Automatic course and hole recognition: The GPS automatically recognises what course and hole you are playing on. What I did find unhelpful is illustrated in the picture below. If you swipe to the ‘hazard’ screen you get distances to every hazard on the hole. So if you are on a heavily-bunkered par 5 for example, you get information overload, such that I gave up even trying to use that feature. It’s a bit of a shame because that information is potentially useful. I’m aware that a competitor watch has a filter in ‘settings’ so that you only get relevant hazard yardages. That, GolfBuddy development team, would be my recommendation for the aim W13.

Once you see the EMERGENCY REBOOT screen, please release the Menu button but leave your unit connected to the USB cable until the process completes. The only downside is that the accuracy seems to drop when I’m playing on courses with lots of hills or trees, but this is common for GPS watches in general and not something specific to the Golf Buddy Aim W11. It was the only GPS watch in our group that has this functionality so scored major points versus its competitors on this front. It was frustrating that two of the features - slope calculation and green undulation - are only available on select golf courses in Korea, Japan and some in the US, so we weren't able to properly test that functionality here in the UK.

Stylish and Practical design: Including interchangeable screen display options- 8 different time display choices available ranging from classic to digital. If there is sweat or liquid on the charging terminals, corrosion may occur on the terminals. Clean the terminals before charging the battery. Still lower in the band (I targeted a watch under RM1k), you will get the cheaper ones like S12, S10 – which depending on your risk appetite, you could find some as low as RM500+ on Shoppee. I wouldn’t trust that too much though – probably in the region of RM700 for S10 or RM800 for S12 or RM1000 for S20. These were the ones in general I was comparing the W11 to. But W11 comes with touch screen, which the cheaper Garmin models did not have. In fact the probable comparison of the W11 would be with the S40, which I think the cheapest I could get to was around is probably 1.4k. Anything cheaper than that right now, I’d probably think twice. It’s always nice not having to worry about running out of battery while you’re playing; this watch definitely made my rounds a lot less stressful. It makes it very easy to see the entire hole at once, and I never had any problems with it not working properly. This function comes in handy when you’re playing on bigger courses where you can’t see the whole green from your tee box.
