Heretic is an illustration and screen printing studio founded in 2005 by Luke Frost, Jon Rundall and Therese Vandling. Their work usually involves blending elements of collage and drawing, exposing exotically hyperreal visuals. Heretic has recently collaborated with Sonic Boom in the project, Animorphia, an experimental piece in print, light and sound which was displayed at the Liverpool International Festival of Psychedelia. When exploring printmaking techniques with our students, it’s not uncommon to encounter powerful messages around the themes of social justice, social issues, and activism. Printmaking has long been the vehicle to spread ideas, share messages, start a conversation, and effect change. Before the modern-day printer, printmaking was viewed (and still is) as an easy way to mass-produce an image and message. This fits hand-in-hand with art related to activism and propaganda because of the opportunity to bring awareness to many people. One of the leading British Pop artists of the 1960s, Peter Blake is perhaps most famous for his cover design of The Beatles‘ Sergeant Pepper album in 1967. The artist often experimented with screen printing, having printed multiples of his primary-colored Beatles portraits—titled Beatles –‘Love Me Do’—in glittering diamond dust. Different printmaking techniques evolved from there. By 1477 Flemish artists produced the first intaglio printing, and by the 1660s, the Germans invented the mezzotint process. The creation of the aquatint method and lithographs would come in the late 1700s through the mid-1800s. In the early 20th century, screenprinting was invented and popularized by Pop artists like Andy Warhol, Peter Blake, and Robert Rauschenberg. This is just a glimpse of printmaking history. Francisco Souto, originally from Venezuela, is a printmaker who works with a variety of methods. Some of his most notable works include the mezzotint process. Favianna RodriguezDan Mather is a London-based screen printer and graphic designer based in London. An independent artist who has collaborated with many London’s creative forefronts including Mash Creative and also this year’s earlier exhibition, Glory Glory, Dan Mather, promises to be a graphic artist who has pushed past the boundary between computer graphic design and hand-made screen printing. Blexbolex is a multi-award winning graphic artist and illustrator based in Berlin. Born in Douai, France as Bernard Granger, he finished his degree in screen printing and has been working in prints for over three decades. His visual storytellings, which are commonly found in children books and graphic novels, illustrate his experimental approach to blending characteristic hand-drawn illustration with commercial printing techniques and book production.

Favianna Rodriguez is an Oakland, CA-based interdisciplinary artist. Her artwork depicts migration, gender justice, climate change, and racial equity. Her work can be described using bold colors and unique mark-making that draws the viewer in. Students will gravitate toward the pieces she creates. Much of her early work explores a variety of printmaking processes from monotypes to relief printing. Favianna Rodriguez – To Oakland with Love, 2013 A print maker, contributor and in-house artist of People of Print, Jim O’Raw has worked alongside our director, Marcroy Smith, for over half decade. With his distinct style of using fluro colours in a CMYK process, Jim’s artwork promises to be original and provides the feel of looking at faded film-developed photos.Print Artist Gold was developed to work on Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10 or Windows 11 and is compatible with 32-bit systems.
